| This is the story of Karana, a young Indian girl raised on an island off the coast of California. Supposedly it is based on a true story, and it tells of how she survived on her native island after all of her people were removed and her younger brother was killed. The reader never knows why Karana's people were removed from the island, which would have helped me understand the story a bit better.

| I read the book to my two children, age 11 yo son and 5 yo daughter. My son was excited to get the movie. However, when we watched it, my son was disappointed. He noted the drastic change in story line, the poor quality of the lighting/screen colors, and the poor acting. My son is an actor himself, but had never made such comments before and this was the first movie he had ever walked out on. On the other hand, my daughter loved it. | It is a well-told story of Nello, a poor boy aspiring to be an artist, and Patrasche, a faithful dog who becomes a friend to him. Based on Ouida's 1872 novella, "A Dog of Flanders" is heart-warming family picture, in which good people (and a dog) get what they deserve and bad people get their due. It is also about a friendship between a poor boy and an ill-used dog, which is appealing to us even now.

| My Side of the Mountain is a wonderful book. It explores a boy's adventures in living off the land on his grandfather's old farmland in the Catskill Mountains. He befriends several forest critters and raises and trains a peregrine falcon while learning how to survive in nature.
That said, I looked forward to seeing the movie. Unfortunately, the movie has no relationship to the book except for the name of the boy (Sam Gribley)and the name of the falcon (Frightful). The location was moved to Quebec (no mention of grandpa's ... Read More: |

Ordered seasons 1 & 2 and am delighted that my 7 & 8 year old grandsons love to come over to watch "Ol' Danl'". Planning to order other seasons soon. Background is clearly not Kentucky,,,rather as one writer stated in the west.
