"Perhaps not many of you have noticed that this movie is a "land-based" version of a previous film, starring Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner, called "On the Beach" (1959)."

No, it's not. It's based on the classic Roger Zelazney novel of the same name. It bears little to no resemblance to the book, which is unfortunate, since the book itself would make a hell of a movie. Even so, the film is still one of my all time favorites. I had a chance many years ago to buy the land cruiser used in ... Read More:

It sure would be nice if this movie were to become available on DVD or
Blu-Ray it it's original theatrical widescreen release. Remastered
sound and picture, if necessary, would be great, too. This is one of
Paul Newman's best films. Looking forward to the day.

3.Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry starring: Claudia McNeil, Janet MacLachlan, Robert Christian, Larry B. Scott, Roy Poole

The video story had a good concept, a good plot showing events that were very realistic, but it left out key events such as the revenge of Cassie against Lilian Jean, how the blacks were treated in school, and the revenge of the Logan children getting back at the white bus driver. Watching the movie with important events left out, left the audience confused.

4.Kaleidoscope (1966) starring: Warren Beatty, Susannah York, Clive Revill, Eric Porter, Murray Melvin

I totally agree with these reviewers: "Kaleidoscope" needs to be on DVD because the writing is on the wall and that is: Movies on CD's are here to stay. My estimation is that it will come out sometime next year as part of a Warren Beatty box set that Warner Brothers has been doing the last two years since as you know "Bonnie and Clyde" is most likely to be re-released on DVD to celebrate its 40th anniversary (yikes!) and be in that set. Let's wait and see.

5.Midway starring: Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, Edward Albert, James Coburn, Glenn Ford
directed by: Jack Smight

VHS : Midway
This is the only movie about the epic battle of Midway which means that its the one that you'll have to watch to get any taste about this incredible pivotal turning point in the war in the Pacific. What can I say?

*You get some great performances from excellent actors like Henry Fonda.
*There's a melodramatic father and son plot between Heston and a young Edward Arnold over his Japanese girlfriend.
*Historical figures are played by up and coming or known actors.
*A documentary type ... Read More:

6.Airport 1975 starring: Charlton Heston, Karen Black, George Kennedy, Gloria Swanson, Efrem Zimbalist Jr.
directed by: Jack Smight
March 05, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Airport 1975
This sequel to the original "Airport" is much better written and acted. Unlike the first "Airport" this film actually has suspense and a plot. A small place crashes into a 747 (right into the cockpit, wouldn't you know) and either kills or severely injures the flight crew. A stewardess is left to bring the jumbo jet safely back to earth.

Charlton Heston gives a pretty good performance as the boyfriend of the pilot/stewardess and other cast members like George Kennedy (how did he get so lucky to be in all ... Read More:

I always thought this story line was original, but now that I have seen "Glory Road" I am embarrassed to admit, I am not as well versed on college basketball history and can see where its genisis came from. So this movie is now the 2nd best basketball movie I have ever seen.

8.Harper starring: Paul Newman, Lauren Bacall, Julie Harris, Arthur Hill, Janet Leigh
directed by: Jack Smight
February 07, 1995

Besides this being just a flat out great detective story, it has style and character. It's great entertainment, and solid acting from all involved like Robert Wagner, Julie Harris and Arthur Hill. If you like beautiful damsels in distress, you won't find one anymore lovely than actress Pamela Tiffin. I also love the two extras on the DVD. Introduction by TCM host Robert Osborne and commentary by the actual screenwriter William Goldman. If you love classic detective drama, this is a must have.

9.No Way to Treat a Lady starring: Rod Steiger, Lee Remick, George Segal, Eileen Heckart, Murray Hamilton
directed by: Jack Smight
August 25, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : No Way to Treat a Lady
An excellent cast with an opportunity to see Eileen Heckart as George Segal's Jewish mother. Rod Steiger is in top form as is beauty Lee Remick. The scene between Segal and Michael Dunn, as the improbable killer, alone, is worth the discounted price I paid for the DVD. This is also a treat for New Yorkers, born and raised, who would like a glimpse of familiar times and places not so long ago.

10.Illustrated Man starring: Rod Steiger, Claire Bloom, Robert Drivas, Don Dubbins, Jason Evers
directed by: Jack Smight
