D-day had failed. Kennedy is president, Joseph sr. that is, not John. Hitler is about to celebrate his 75th birthday. That was all the exposition I needed. It's springtime for Hitler in Germainia. We lost. It is the early 60's & the cold war has taken a hard left turn from what we know happen. The Germans are still fighting the Russians. Hitler wants a peace treaty with The United States. It is about to happen. President Kennedy is coming to Berlin & bringing a lot of reporters. One problem: ... Read More:

VHS : Dangerous Man
Excellent all-rounded movie depicting both history and the very good performances of both Fiennes and Siddig. The flaw in the movie is the very weak Arabic of Siddig and other arabic speaking characters in the movie.

I was a student of Ayn Rand's philosophy and a patient of Mr. Branden's several decades ago, in the early 70's. Why? Because I was trying in vain to live as Ms. Rand said we should: as heroic figures every day, perfect in our morals, that we should aspire to be as perfect as the impossibly perfect, cold, robotic main characters of her novels, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shugged. The only book of hers I read several times was We The Living as the characters were most like flesh and blood and real.

OK, let's take a 50-something, not-so-pretty lady. Let's make her a top crime unit detective. Let's make her drink, smoke, sleep with married men, and give hell to her male colleagues and superiors. Finally, let's make her the heroin of a TV series. OK, at that point you know you're not in the US anymore... And you're right. Welcome to the BBC and to one very real[istic] detective show. Helen Mirren is one a few actresses that could make you care about such an anti-hero character. And she does. Her uncompromising, in-your-face ways ... Read More:

I wanted to like this so much. Really, I did. But there was one flaw that I just could not get past, and her name is Irene. The character is already difficult to sympathize with, but she might have stood a chance if it weren't for the grossly miscast Gina McKee. I don't doubt McKee's acting ability, but she was a mistake for this role. Her stone coolness was a bit too cold. Her interpretation of Irene is not the sort of woman that would cause this kind of "enchantment" of so many members of this family. I just don't believe it. I ... Read More:
