VHS : The Rounders
This amiable modern Western benefits enormously from the casting of the great genre veterans Henry Fonda and Glenn Ford as two veteran cowboys ,forever on the verge of abandoning their nomadic lifestyle and settling down ,but never quite making it.The movie revolves around their attempts to tame an especially recalitrant bronco named Ol Fooler-who it is suggested is a little like the two men in being stubborn ,hard to tame and determined to go his own way but likeable and who eventually will be ... VHS : The War Wagon
The War Wagon was a hit when it was first released and is still a great film today. John Wayne and Kirk Douglas have just enough tension to really wonder if they will end up shooting each other or doing the hold up. Excellent addition to any family home film library.

3.Hannie Caulder starring: Raquel Welch, Robert Culp, Ernest Borgnine, Christopher Lee, Jack Elam

VHS : Hannie Caulder
The brothers (played by Strother Martin, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Elam)as mentioned in other reviews, are "slap stick" at times. Welch's make-up was too heavy for the time period, and her dress un-buttoned down her navel while she is cooking, was a bit much. With all that it is still a very good movie and Robert Culp's best acting. He could teach me to shoot a gun anytime!

One of the better Welch movies, I have this on VHS and have watched it over and over!

4.Support Your Local Gunfighter starring: James Garner, Suzanne Pleshette, Jack Elam, Harry Morgan, Joan Blondell

VHS : Support Your Local Gunfighter
Though the titles are similar, as is some of the cast, this isn't a sequel to Support Your Local Sheriff. In some ways it's the complete opposite of Support Your Local Sheriff. In Sheriff Garner was good with a gun, in this one he isn't. In this movie he's Latigo Smith, much more akin to Maverick than his character in Sheriff, i.e., he's slower with a gun & somewhat of a coward.

Latigo arrives in Purgatory (a town name that would've been perfect in an episode of Maverick) on the run from a woman he's ... Read More:

VHS : Support Your Local Sheriff
By 1969, revolution was in the air in the United States. All kinds of institutions were under question or attack. So it was a perfect time for the funniest spoof ever of the heroic Western. James Garner stars in "Support Your Local Sheriff" as Jason McCullough, who rides into the frontier town of Calendar. Calendar was a sleepy little outpost until the discovery of gold a short time before McCullough's arrival. Then all h--- broke loose. He's soon persuaded to take up the sheriff's badge, which is vacant (and dented) since ... Read More:

VHS : The Alamo - Thirteen Days To Glory
Yes, this has faults, many glaring. But it was created for the Texas Sesquicentennial celebration and was aired during the time of year of the battle (if I remember correctly). It was made to be entertaining and appeal to the young people (Alex Baldwin; the young lovers-the girl was played by a former Miss Texas, I think; the marvelous Raul Julia, who practically stole the show), who have to study Texas history twice before they graduate there. As a fifth-generation native Texan (currently exiled in Georgia) I love the Alamo story and its various ... Read More:

8.The Deserter (aka "Ride to Glory") starring: Bekim Fehmiu, Richard Crenna, Chuck Connors, Ricardo Montalban, Ian Bannen

VHS : The Deserter (aka "Ride to Glory")
The Deserter, known in some circles as "Ride to Glory" is a riveting movie. It depicts a Captain of Cavalry, who leaves the army after his wife is killed by Apaches. He is brought back to train and lead a special detachment that will invade and attack the Apache warcamp. The movie is filled with great stars and character actors. Slim Pickens and Woody Strode are great. I have no idea what happened to Bekim Fehmu, but he delivered a stirring performance in the lead role.
If you like movies featuring the U.S. Cavalry and the Apaches and a lot of action ... Read More:

VHS : Dirty Dingus Magee (1970)

Not much happening in this psuedo, comedy western from 1970. How Frank got talked into this farce would make good coversation over a drink or two. If he was trying to follow up for SERGEANTS THREE, or 4 FOR TEXAS, he missed the bullseye.

However, if you have free time of a few hours to spare, and if like me have never seen this film before, them you might want to watch it. I remember when they were filming it from some outtakes shown back then, but had never seen this one in theatres or on cable. Thanks to Encore Westerns I have finally ... Read More:

VHS : The Wild, Wild West Revisited
"The Night of the Inferno," the pilot episode of "The Wild Wild West," establishes the formula for the television series created by Michael Garrison about the James Bond of the Old West that ran on CBS from September 17, 1965 until September 7, 1970. But while the formula is tried and true, adapting the super spy formula of exotic villains and grandiose plans to rule a significant portion of the American West, the tone of the series is not yet to be established. This is clear as soon as we meet our heroes "James" West (Robert Conrad) and "Artemus" Gordon (Ross Martin). ... Read More:
