VHS : Master Harold & The Boys
This powerful three-character play, set in Port Elizabeth, South Africa in 1950, considers the interwoven relationships of young Harold (Hally), the seventeen-year-old son of the white proprietor of a tea room, and the two African men who have worked there for years. Hally has always considered Sam, the waiter, as a kind of father substitute, looking to him for guidance about the real world, since his undependable, alcoholic father has been living in an institution. When Hally's father is released ... Read More:

Just got done watching this for the 3rd time. I saw it once on TV long ago, then found it in the $5.00 Walmart bin and have seen it twice at home. Modine does a great job here and you really fall for the spirit of his character in this film. I suspect not many people with his flair for independence survive in this world but his obvious talent carries him through with the powers that be. It is interesting to see his lab partners torn between throwing him under the bus for guilt by association and their ... Read More:

With all the cheesey B Horror Movies out there, I'm surprised this has
never been released on DVD. I bet Attack of the Mushroom People is probably on DVD! Would some studio please release this to the people who remember this at the theater or saw it on VHS.

This was a Peter Benchley novel adapted to the screen after his huge
hits JAWS and The Deep played out well at the box office. I saw this at
a big screen theater, when it was released, before the days of the cineplex. ... Read More:

I havent seen this movie since i was a kid. (born in 85) but all i know is this movie creeped me out. I recently picked up the bluray version on black friday, and just finished watching it earlier tonight. I must say the film itself looks very good. I cant say much about audio since im currently without a home theater system, but i will have my new one tomorrow. Here are my thoughts:

Video: 4/5
Overall video is very clear and crisp. Gets grainy during some night scenes, but thats actually common ... Read More:

VHS : Rage in Harlem
I was in college when this came out and Robin's character taught me everything I needed about being sultry.

She is a bad ass bitch in the movie, in the vein of a Pam Grier character. The setting is Harlem, where only the feisty, the sly, and those with panache survive. Robin's portrayal of Immabel as slow-slurring, smooth as butter, carefree but calculating seductress is deftly-done.

She carries the movie well and it's hard to take your eyes off her. This is crucial, because if Immabel wasn't ... Read More:

6.Comedians (1967) starring: Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Alec Guinness, Peter Ustinov, Paul Ford
directed by: Peter Glenville

VHS : Comedians (1967)
If Z was the champion movie dealing with the Authoritarian regimes, there were another two: Battle of Algiers and this one. Powerful political drama focused on the repressive regime of Doc Duvalier. The script is intense and realistic; the cast is glorious; Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Peter Ustinov and Alec Guiness. A team very difficult to get in those times.

7.Waterworld starring: Rick Aviles, R.D. Call, Leonardo Cimino, Kevin Costner, Anthony DeMasters
directed by: Kevin Costner
July 09, 1996
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Waterworld
The product description for this dvd is hugely misleading. Not only is the running time just the extended cut and theatrical cut combined, but the extended cut is the TV version broadcast on ABC without the nudity, excessive violence and profanity. So unless you want the real director's cut which doesn't exist, this is definitely NOT it.

8.Dad starring: Jack Lemmon, Ted Danson, Olympia Dukakis, Kathy Baker, Kevin Spacey
directed by: Gary David Goldberg
March 01, 1992
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Dad
Ted Danson is pretty good as a business exec who becomes very attached to his father, played by Jack Lemmon. Lemmon himself is also not bad as the aging father, but the movie itself is full of contrived scenes that are supposed to be heartwarming, but come across as predictable and sometimes ludicrous. Also, I was rather displeased with Lemmon's makeup, which doesn't seem very realistic (I can't believe it was nominated for an Oscar!).
