VHS : Mr Holland's Opus
The first time I saw this movie, I was a young teenager visiting my grandparents. It was coming on TV one night, and my grandmother mentioned that I would probably most enjoy it. As always, she was correct. Mr. Holland's Opus is, by far, one the BEST movies ever made!!! There are so many personalities exhibited; full ranges of emotions explored and expressed. It is amazing to watch the unfolding of a person's life. And it is truly wondrous to see how so many small actions and events affect so many ... Read More:

VHS : It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie
I am a big fan of the Muppet Family (Sesame, Fraggles, thee Muppets, Labyrinth, etc.)and so it is without hesitation that I write this review to say this Muppet release is best to be forgotten. Some have been pleased with the newer Muppet releases (Muppet Christ Carol, Muppets From Space) and disappointed (Muppet Treasure Island)... but this release is beyond disappointment or simply a bad movie.

It's simply inappropriate for a Muppet film.

Fozzie is a pick-pocket, which is sort ... Read More:

I'm not sure why anyone would pick this one up and pop it in the DVD player when they can just pop the original one in instead. The original is a great classic that will forever sit on top ten lists everywhere as the most chilling work of art ever created for the silver screen. This one is only tepid in comparison, and that's where the interest lies if anything, and that's too watch an update scene for scene, shot for shot movie, minus the suspense and minus the dread. This one is just "blah". Julianne Moore and William Macy manage ... Read More:

VHS : The Water Engine
This is the type of film that should be shown to students of history and political science. David Mamet is one of America's better screen writers/directors of the smaller, independant film. Those of you who viewed Tucker might enjoy this similar story of a man ahead of his time. The big budget film Chain Reaction with Morgan Freeman was probably inspired from this gem of a movie.

William Macy does a good job as a man of dreams/visions who comes up with the ideal engine run on a cheap power source, H 2 O. His invention produces ... Read More:

VHS : Searching for Bobby Fischer
This is my all-time favorite movie. There is not one wasted scene or false note. The performances are excellent. I am not alone in my opinion: Ben Kingsley said in an interview I watched, that this was his favorite of all the movies he's done. If you are a chess expert and expect this to be a technically correct in every way depiction of the game, it's not. If you are not interested in chess and think this is about just chess, it's not. It's about relationships: mainly a father, son, and teacher relationship. No profanity, no blood, no sex, some tears and laughs, ... Read More:
