VHS : Two Lane Blacktop
This movie is the ultimate existential road trip.

Although I wouldn't normally say this when describing how I feel about a film but I love the way the movie distances the characters from the audience. Dennis Wilson and James Taylor's lack of acting experience actually adds to the films atmosphere. As true existential characters, they are too focused on 'the road' to worry about anything else. They only show true emotion when the Girl comes between them, making those scenes even more ... Read More:

Other reviews are right on the money. Brinks got kicked in the teeth cause they let their guard down. Some petty operators were able to boost the money becuase Brinks relied on their big name and past success to intimidate would-be crooks. I heard these guys lived on the money the rest of their lives without showing off. The film is great and the times are captured flawlessly in the sets and the language.

VHS : East of Eden (TV Mini-Series)
Back when network TV was at the height of producing the high quality mini-series, ABC premiered "East of Eden" in February of 1981. Originally broadcast as an 8-hour epic (including commercials), when it was released on video in 1984 it was highly edited, and came in at just 4 hours. Some missing scenes include teenaged Cathy's affair with her school-teacher, and his subsequent suicide, and Charles' and Adam's experiences as young men, before they met Cathy. (If you look closely at the video box, you can see ... Read More:

VHS : Thief Who Came to Dinner
The opening scene is filmed at the Johnson Space Center in Houston showing buildings 5 (mission simulator) and 29 (centrifuge), and realistically portrays the kinds of things engineers there discuss and occasionally do.

I know because I was there. One intense intellectual guy suddenly quit to join the Hell's Angels. Another sailed around Latin America and married a Venezuelan woman half his age and hosted a strip club calendar shoot in his house. The recent incident in which an astronaut allegedly ... Read More:

On one of the discussion boards was a question about the pretty schoolteacher being carried along with the rioting mob, losing another piece of attire every time seen (yelling "warden," asking for help) for part of the riot sequence and then disappearing. And mention of seeing a still picture where she wore a hat, boots and a smile while running through the desert. Question was about the editing.
An acquaintance saw the sneak preview of the picture in Long Beach while it was still being edited and mentioned that ... Read More:

This is a favorite from my childhood. I saw it in the theatre when it was first released, and I owned the album and the (widescreen) laser disc.

I was so disappointed to see that this was a full frame transfer, and a lousy one at that! One of the biggest thrills of this movie was its wide open vistas of the Mississippi River and the wonderful cinematography. This DVD release from MGM/UA is grainy, dark and at times fuzzy. The sound is terrible too, and it was terrific on the laser disc in 5.1 surround. You're ... Read More:

VHS : The Wild Bunch (30th Anniversary Widescreen Edition)
I put this in my top 25 greatest westerns. Lots of good actors. Lots of shoot em up. Vengeance is the driving force of the story. Good sub plots. Will be or is a western classic. I bought the box set of Sam Peckinpah's western. Was worth the price for 4 movies and free delivery.

VHS : Race With the Devil
This is one of those movies that keeps you guessing until the very end. The story is diligently crafted to keep you on the edge of your seat through the entire film. The strangers encountered in the film are rightfully under suspicion by the main characters throughout the entire journey, which creates some very intense and eerie situations. This movie is far-fetched but still manages to provide a pretty sweet wallop, when all said and done. It's a great ride filled with horror and suspense.
