| I thought the artistry was great in this movie, but it's definitely not for youngsters who like claymation. The subject content was pretty morbid, even though the movie ends positively. I was kind of shocked that it was so violently suggestive - it was scary, and I'm an adult. I felt uncomfortable, which is why I don't watch it that often. After seeing this, I am much happier watching his other works like "Wallace and Gromit", which is far more suitable for children. |

| For me one of the most engaging moments in the film is when Gilbert, played by Broadbent, encounters Japanese Kendo fighting and especially Japanese theater. This is set up as a prelude to suggesting that an exhibition of Japanese culture Gilbert attends starts him off thinking up the Mikado. | Half an hour into the movie, I honestly was bored to tears and nearly cringed at this entire film. The only thing that's good about this film is the visuals, but flashy visuals don't mean anything if there's not a story. After just 20 minutes I got tired of watching the actors do nothing more but turn up their noses in snobbery and trying to acquire a French accent, which is not the least bit natural or believable. | Mike Leigh's film won Best Picture at the Cannes Film Festival. A young black woman decides to find her birth-mother only to discover her mother is white, just one among many of the SECRETS & LIES of this tale. A first-rate cast delivers knock-out performances. A bit on the long side, the film has both drama and comical moments, with a healthy helping of tenderness. The DVD has a good quality transfer of the widescreen original but no bonus features apart from the trailer (and a few other trailers). A first-rate comedy/drama with heart! |

| I thought, from reading the description, that this would be boring. But it wasn't, not by a long shot. It's probably the best "Young Indy". The action is limited to the first five or so minutes, where Lieutenant De Fonz (aka Indy) disobeys his superior and tells the troops to advance instead of retreat. This results in victory, and a promotion to Captain, but also the Major holding a grudge. Naturally, Indy and the Major are then teamed up on a mission to retrieve some weapons. | Excellent performances abound. Christopher Lambert in one of his early acting (rather than more recent "movie star") roles. Joss Ackland is his stalwart, dependable best. But it's Ed Harris's flick, one for the portfolio, at a time when he was still (largely) flying under everyone's radar. This reviewer's introduction to Tim Roth and Pete Postlethwaite, as well. Memorable stuff.
Looking forward to seeing director Holland's fine Solidarity tale on a remastered, anamorphic widescreen DVD. |

| I purchased this movie because I thought it would be appropriate for my family movie night. Thankfully the kids were more interested in playing than movie watching as my sister and I had the opportunity to pre-screen. OH, MY...this movie is NOT FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!! I've never read the books, but the movie was totally inappropriate and should have been rated PG-13. | Wild horses couldn't get most of us to watch a full-length Shakespeare play starring Alicia Silverstone, but give the girl credit for really trying! (I do like the review below in which the reviewer criticizes Silverstone for speaking her dialogue with emphasis on every single word, it's true.)
