| This movie, like many of its characters, was not at all what it appeared to be at first look. The plot was intriguing, and I love Matthew Broderick, so I snapped it up at my local video store. Sadly, my enjoyment was ruined by the forehead-slapping lack of credible action by the characters. | I think this is a wonderful adaptation of a wonderful novel. The acting is superb. The cinematography exquisite. Juliet Stevenson and Tim Guinee are extraordinary. It is well worth your time. |

| The script is excellent. The acting is great. The characters are strong. And the plotting, for a family drama, is certainly good. But the ending here is a REAL downer. If you don't mind such a bummer ending, this is a really worthwhile film.
The first two-thirds of it are superb. It's not that the last third is bad; not at all. It's just that in the last third real tragedy strikes and yes, we all know that's real because that's what life can do. But don't expect this movie to make you feel ... Read More: |

| In spite of its packaging, this is not a porno flick! (If it were, it would leave alot to be desired.) Great film-making. I won't say any more, but if you want a sensual and very, very interesting movie, pick this. Great sound track too (wish it were on CD!). |

| Beavis and Butt-Head Do America was a big screen movie based on the t.v. series. Beavis and Butt-Head are pretty hilarious, they go into a lot of trouble in this film and I love every second of it. If you were a fan of the t.v. show then I highly recommend this version as well, you'll love it! |

| Those of you who like this movie probably have not read the book. This movie makes a mockery of the book and the characters in the movie are laughable.
This movie does NO justice to the book. They left out important facts, did you know Mary had another son that they decided wasn't important enough to even mention. He ended up dying when she left him with the Indians. They also didn't do justice to the attack on the village in the beginning of the movie when her sister-in-laws baby was swung around ... | After reading the book I was extremely disappointed by this poor attempt. I had the 'bad joss' of actually buying the dvd after reading the book. If you hadn't read the book the film would be truly incomprehensible, and if you read the book you would feel a tremendous void. As many other reviewers have said, Taipan needs to be reincarnated as a mini-series of some sort to afford it proper treatment. |
