| I was not expecting much when I sat down to watch this movie for the first time. It had received pretty mediocre reviews on this site, but I bought it regardless, simply because of the good price and because I am infatuated with Clark Gable. After watching this movie, I did not understand why people were so unimpressed with it. It is one of the prized movies in my collection.

| To echo many, why isn't this film on dvd? "Wagonmaster" has the visual look of a silent western. Also, it's character driven rather than plot, and the villainous Cleggs offer a perfect counter to the leisurely, unfolding story. Their unwelcome arrival in camp and subsequent conduct is the spice needed to make the rest of the story work. | I grew up watching the Ma and Pa Kettle series on PBS on Sunday mornings. I was so excited to discover that they had been released on video, I was able to 'rediscover' these screen gems. Ma and Pa make me laugh out loud! I would recommend this to anyone who likes to revisit fun and innocent times. |

| How can a movie at the end of the "golden era" with three major stars prove to be a dud. Welcome to The Spoilers. The script is weak, containing some real howlers. Marlene is wooden; her face seems to be painted on. (Would that she had danced and tried to sing.) Wayne and Scott smirk through every scene. Even the lengthy fight scene is poorly done; it's fun to watch the double for Scott appear and reappear in the long shots. Oh yes, and the story was supposed to take place in Nome. | Robert Ryan's character, Nathan Stark, is based on a real person, Nelson Storey, who struck it rich near the boomtown of Virginia City MT(renamed Mineral City in the film), and, in 1866, used some of this money to drive a herd of Texas Longhorns from Texas to meet the pent up demand for beef by the gold miners of Virginia City. | I am a huge Gary Cooper fan and this is one of my favorites. It is funny and as with all of Coop's movies very well acted. The DVD is good quality. There was no sound problem or choppiness in the flow of the film. If you like Gary Cooper and haven't seen this movie, you are definetely missing a good one! If you haven't seen any of Coop's movies - this is a good place to start. |
