David Wolper's full length TV feature revisted the subject of his Emmy winning Appointment with Destiny episode on the July plot but the result was far inferior to the original. Lots of historical inaccuracies and no drama. The viewer is not engaged with the characters. Definately movie of the week stuff.

I greatly enjoy BBC movies of the classics, and this did not disappoint. You do want to make the time to watch, or you could find yourself getting lost by splitting your attention. Give yourself an afternoon or evening and enjoy.

The movie follows the book. It is a great movie. I have looked at it
many times, so I could get the full meaning. It is a must see if you are
a writer.

[BEWARE SPOILERS]

I don't know whether I've ever watched a film in which I identified more with all the characters than I did in this emotionally wrenching masterwork from the late, great Louis Malle. It is part of the genius of Malle to, like Shakespeare, make every character real and to see and present the depth of even those slightly off stage.

I could begin with the youngest, the daughter Sally (Gemma Clarke) who says little and is always at a slight distance, her serious face in the backseat ... Read More:

VHS : Different for Girls
Let's get to the bottom of things. Rupert Graves is the only reason to watch this film. The movie is only slightly entertaining with Graves being the true reason.

No disrespect to Mackintosh (I've seen him in other things and think he's a good actor) but he didn't do it for me in this. He wasn't convincing as a transexual let alone a woman. He didn't even look like a woman but like a man in make-up. For this movie to be more realistic they could have picked a more feminine-looking male lead or at least a man that can look ... Received this item in good time and good quality. Enjoyed the excellent character acting, scenery and a side to WWII I knew very little about.

VHS : Mrs Dalloway
Eileen Atkins screenplay based on the classic modernist novel by Virginia Woolf is about as close as a screenwritter can get to duplicate the tone and dialouge, including following the novel's plot from the start to its interesting conclusion.

Vanessa Redgrave was perfect casting for the older Clarissa Dalloway and the beautiful Natascha McElhone as the young Clarissa, too, a good casting choice.

Virginia Woolf's novel was very controversial at the time of it publication due to its style and structure, writng the novel in a non-linear ... Read More:
