| Maggie McNamara plays a secretary in embassy in italy so well! yest is is forgotten today...a suicide in nyc inthe 60's or 70's. she couldnt get work as an actress because of a movie she made after 3 coins called THE MOON IS BLUE...with david niven and wm holden(i think) about i gal haveing 2 boyfriends/lovers...it was panned as outrageous can you believe it? ihave seen it and nothing os the sort is true. maggie did a fine job but the critics banned this film! and it followed her until her death. ... I saw this film in 1962 just days after returning from a tour of Italy. While not a classic film by any means, I was totally won over and was back in Italy again. Whenever I watch it and listen to Max Steiner's wonderful score I can practically smell Rome. It was titled 'Lovers Must Learn' here in the UK, and was never released on VHS here. I had to get a copy from the USA. I would like to add a plea to Warner Bros to release this film on DVD. It has a real nostalgia quotient attached to it, ... Read More: |

| "The Story of Esther Costello" has to be one of my very favorite movies with Joan. I know I say that all the time but this time I really mean it. At the very least, it has to be one of Joan's very best movies from the fifties. My three favorite movies from this era, of Joan's six-decade career include: Harriet Craig, Johnny Guitar and this. | Yes. Absolutely. You're busted by this film (you know whom you are) and you STILL will not admit it. Classic.
The-Powers-That-Be (or think that they "Be", incorrectly, I must add) in Hollywood should produce this movie in English. There is a DEMAND for it. It would sell. Yep. | This is a movie I appreciate in terms of it having some interesting philosophical undertones.
The film is underappreciated; people try to make it out to be something that it is not. Of course it is not like the first movie, what sequel ever is? What would be of interest if it was just the same thing recycled all over again? As for a weak script, I hardly see it.
