| I enjoyed the story and loved how a person can choose to change his life for the better. However, for Dr. Merrick to suddenly appear at a sanitarium in New Mexico, and then have a very nice operating room complete with viewing window that you might imagine finding in a large well equiped hospital was a little difficult to swallow. | I was allowed into the theater to see this when I was 14, almost 15, and the lady at the ticket booth said, "Hmmmm....OK." My friend was just over 16, I think, so he might have been underage as well. Anyway, I recommend this movie for anyone who likes 1960's period pieces. Love the music, the sunny innocence mixed with naughty naughtiness, the tongue-in-cheek performances, the high school upskirts, Angie Dickinson. Just another movie that makes you wonder why it has not seen the digital light of day yet. |

| "Giant" is a larger-than-life 1950s soap opera filled with all sorts of rivalries, oil derricks, class warfare, and cattle barons. Rock Hudson plays Jordan "Bick" Benedict who brings home an Easterner (Elizabeth Taylor) as his bride. Bick's sister, Luz, doesn't take none too kindly to new bride Leslie whereas ranch hand Jett Rink quite clearly does. | A Russian spy satellite comes down at the North Pole and it's a race between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. to see who gets there first. Rock Hudson as the U.S. sub commander, Patrick MacGoohan as a mysterious British agent, Ernest Borgnine as a Russian defector and Jim Brown as a hard nosed Marine officer. Not quite up to the novel from which it was adapted but still, an entertaining window on a past era: the Cold War. | I've seen this film several times and I always find it disturbing because it strikes me as classic Hollywood in that though the Civil War is central to the film, at no point is slavery ever mentioned. Which is to say that the film turns on the reconciliation of North and South and their mutual interests, which come to the fore as they are fighting Mexicans. | i watched this miniseries as a kid in the 80s and was blown away at the time. Decades later, i found it on Amazon and, still being in possession of a vcr, obtained the tapes and watched it recently. This is one of the greatest miniseries scripts ive ever seen in terms of the constant one-upmanship and escalating tension. I liked the movie. I was in it when it was filmed at Beale AFB, CA in 1963. I was a Security Policeman on the flight line and we, as well as our aircrews and missle crews were used as background players. SAC, with a little human dramatization, was pretty well portrayed with the ORI (Operational Readiness Inspection) which typically hit about 2 AM as a No Notice inspection by 15th Air Force.
