| Just to offer my two cents, now that both versions are on DVD:
Regardless of what aspect ratio it was originally shot in, the full-screen version is indeed pan & scan. I now have both. If you compare the two, you'll see the newer widescreen DVD is not missing any of the picture from the top or bottom. It is the full-screen that is indeed missing the sides. | The Verdict (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
One of many of the late, GREAT Paul Newman's fine work on film. I first saw this film in the theater and simply had to purchase the DVD after the sad news of his passing. I think it is one of the must-haves of his work as an actor. |

| Why is this movie out of print ? This is a great movie, fantastic thriller. There is one scene set in a nudists' club. Is that the problem ?
I just can't stand the MPAA. Not sure if it their fault, but it certainly smells like it. |

| This is one of Newmans best, because he plays a completely dispicable
person with no redeeming qualities. He has no scruples and no character. It is a great departure for Newman and he does a Great job. |

| It sure would be nice if this movie were to become available on DVD or
Blu-Ray it it's original theatrical widescreen release. Remastered sound and picture, if necessary, would be great, too. This is one of Paul Newman's best films. Looking forward to the day. |

| Paul and Elizabeth at their best, Burl Ives too. The winey sister-in-law needs to be taken out and shot! Excellent movie, I've watched it, this copy and others at least a dozen times. They don't make movies like this any more. Thank God, "they" did when they made this and others of this type. Now if I could remember the movie with Paul and Geraldine Page of similar vintage, I'd buy it too. She is a fading movie star; Paul is her "love toy". |
