| I can only guess. It's not released due to hints of beastiality in the movie Island of Lost Souls??? IF so that's just rubbish.
Island of Lost Souls is a great, classic Friday night B&W horror flick that no collection should be without. Period. But we are forced to have a VHS or cheap bootleg. | Every aspect of this film is flawless. All period films should use this one as an example of how to bring history to life.
I can't speak much about the plot that hasn't already been discussed to death here and Amazon itself has done a decent job recapping the basics of this story. | I was fascinated to see this movie bring Solzhenitsyn's book to life. I'd seen bits of it as child before I'd read the novel and had always wanted to get a copy. Tom Courtney was wonderfully cast as Shukov. The rest of the cast was great also. The work gang's boss, the Baptists, the guards. My heart bled for "The Captain" again. Everybody who studies totalitarianism would do well to watch this film. The cinematography was gripping, you could feel the cold. "how can a man who's warm understand a man who's cold?" |
