| We have been Herriot fans for years, and cannot get enough of the wonderful episodes on these videos. Laughter and warmth balance the truths of real-life people the pre- and post-war for farmers in the English Dales. We especially like the actors who participate ... they are not the Hollywood model types, but instead are people who easily make you believe they lived through the various stories.
Can't say enough good about it ... these are classic. |

| I remember watching this on TV as a child, and bought it to watch with my grandchildren - they loved it! Lauren & Hardy and other actors/comedians from the 1930's, 40's, and 50's should not be forgotten. |

| Way Out West is generally regarded as Laurel and Hardy's best feature film.Next to Sons Of The Desert.It is the only other L&H film to be a Stan Laurel Production(the other being Our Relations from a year earlier).Definetly one of my favourite L&H films.Not a dull moment in the movie.Rarely do we actually see Stan laugh.Not only is this one of their films where Oliver sings beautifully,but Stan also sings with a cartoonish trick voice.There are a lot of special effects in this movie as well.Such as Stan igniting ... | Hampered by material better suited to Abbott and Costello, the decline of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy began with this badly conceived 1941 comedy - a sad comedown from the Hal Roach days. The Boys try their best to redeem "Great Guns," but it's a losing battle. Stan and Ollie's lack of creative input is woefully apparent. If you want to see the team in military surroundings, track down the far-superior "Pack Up Your Troubles" (1932). |

| It's already been well-covered as to plot, deficiencies, etc. by other reviewers. So I will just say that, bogged down though it may be with a dreadful and forgettable romance that has little bearing on our boys, the merits far outweigh the slight defects. The 'Hundred Pipers' dance segment counts with their best, the bungled forced-suicide of Stanley's, ditto (Out of our sight, the gun goes off, but Stanley is revealed to be still standing; "What happened?" asks Ollie.
