VHS : Venus Beauty Institute
I like Nathalie Baye, she is definitely not hollywood pretty nor attractive, but like Audrey Tautou who stars in this film, they are both extremely feminine, unlike Emmanuelle Seigner who seems almost masculine next to them.

It is a French movie and you have to accept the plot is thin and the movement slow, but if you dig the French style, then this movie is worth watching several times.

3.The Return of Martin Guerre starring: Gérard Depardieu, Nathalie Baye, Maurice Barrier, Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu, Isabelle Sadoyan

VHS : The Return of Martin Guerre
I saw this film on VHS back in college, and can't say its release on DVD does a lot in terms of enhancing the experience of seeing it again, but it's an interesting story: up to a point. I know it's based on an actual event but were this a novel it'd be one of those of which I'd say it would've made a far better short story.

The question of whether the man who returns home from war in the 16th century is actually the same long-lost Martin who left his family years before, or an imposter, is intriguing ... Read More:

VHS : Stolen Portraits
This movie is very well titled. This is by no means a complete portrait of Francois Truffaut. It is only a few "Stolen Portraits" strung together.

Much of the footage here is quite interesting and informative. What is most noticeable about the film, however, is not what is included but what is missing. A previous reviewer remarked on the notable absence of Jean-Pierre Leaud. To that I would also ask, since Truffaut was so noted for his work with children, why no interview with the grown-up Jean-Pierre Cargol from the "Wild ... Read More:

VHS : Beethoven's Nephew
Independent filmmaker Morrissey sheds his well-deserved reputation as a sensationalistic chronicler of life on the fringe in this thoughtful and opulent story of the destructively possessive relationship between Ludwig Von Beethoven and his handsome nephew. In a rewrite of history, Morrissey shows Beethoven in his later years as a furious and demanding "superstar" who, after winning a vicious court battle for the custody of his sister's son, becomes consumed with an insanely jealous love for the boy. With surprising control in its examination of ... Read More:

VHS : Catch Me If You Can
"Catch Me If You Can" is a movie about the notorious, real-life con artist Frank Abagnale, Jr. who wrote millions of dollars in bad checks. He ended up later helping the FBI in fraud prevention. "Catch Me If You Can" is actually based on Mr. Abagnale's own biography so it's not entirely true and some of it has been exaggerated for enterainment sake. However, it's still an engrossing storyline and its just amazing he was able to get away with it for so long. I high recommend this movie to everyone. It's definitely an adventure.

7.Detective starring: Laurent Terzieff, Aurelle Doazan, Jean-Pierre Léaud, Nathalie Baye, Claude Brasseur
directed by: Jean-Luc Godard

VHS : Detective
After his experimental phase in the 70's, Godard supposedly returned to mainstream cinema, but this movie isn't many peoples' idea of a mainstream movie. It's title is deceptive as there isn't much of a noir plot and most of the movie consists of scenes and conversations that don't really go anywhere. Some of these are quite amusing, like a scene where people wonder why porno movies are refered to as x-rated. But the film is mostly frustrating, chiefly to be viewed by film scholars and JLG buffs.

8.The Green Room starring: Nathalie Baye, Marcel Berbert, Henri Bienvenu, Guy D'Ablon, Jean Dasté

VHS : The Green Room
This is my favorite Truffault film, and one that is virtually unknown, even by cinema people. Not only is his direction masterful, but he plays the lead quite well, showing that he was as great as an actor as he was a filmmaker. He plays a very lonely man who writes obituaries for a very small paper. He is really obsessed with his job and only his job. He is haunted by survivor's guilt from WWI, and the death of his wife on their wedding night. He meets a woman who attempts to pull him out of his malaise, but he refuses, electing to live for the ... Read More:

VHS : The Man Who Loved Women
Truffaut's pseudo-autobiographical romantic comedy concerns a man who, at least outwardly, has no particularly exceptional qualities. And yet his persistence, frankness, and attentiveness to the physical attributes of the various women he encounters--played by Fossey, Natalie Baye, and Nelly Borgeaud--result in his becoming a rather roguish ladies' man. Denner--unsmiling, helplessly leering, yet somehow charming--was a perfect choice for the role, and there's a lot more to the story than conquest. As Bertrand writes about his life, he discovers dissatisfaction at ... Read More:

VHS : La Balance
A film of style that keeps its feet on the ground. The themes were based around the police department in the Paris of the early 80's. There are some really delicate moments mixed into the hardships of a couple trying to survive their alternate lifestyle on the streets as they become caught between the vengeance of other criminals and the law. Beats the pants off 90% of the US cop movies out there
