VHS : Time Of Their Lives
In the early 1940's Bud Abbot and Lou Costello produced many many 'b' films for universal. The usual pattern was that bullying Abbot and Child like Costello somehow get involved with mad scientists, gangsters and adventurers concocting wild schemes. Prat falls and chases are their stock in trade. This film however was a break from that pattern and the effect is magic.

It starts in Revolutionary New York where Lou is a struggling tinker and Bud the major Domo for a Tory land owner. This seems ... Read More:

VHS : Ministry of Fear
Fritz Lang was one of the greatest directing talents to ever emerge from German cinema. Born in Vienna, he migrated to Berlin following service in World War One and became one of Germany's premier directors.

When Hitler came to power, however, Lang found himself at a potentially deadly crossroad. He was summoned by Joseph Goebbels, the Third Reich's infamous Director of Propaganda, and was offered the position of becoming the regime's head of filmmaking.

The sagacious director knew ... Read More:

VHS : Heaven Can Wait (1943)
Hmmm. This movie could have been very cute, and has several fine and comical parts. Unfortunately, too many things don't follow or are clumsily explained, not too mention it should be a good 15 minutes shorter. For me, it would have been a much better story if all of Ameche's so called "sins" were only misunderstandings/misperceptions
from his squareish family (as many seem to be). I was fully expecting them to explained as such by the devil himself at the end, and that he would fully realize his fine character ... Read More:

VHS : That Midnight Kiss
I grew up listening to Mario Lanza on radio & seeing his movies, but I had never seen his first movie, That Midnight Kiss. What a joy to watch and hear him, as well as Kathyrn Grayson. He was so young, and his weight the best I've ever seen of him. Guess he was born with natural acting talent as well as beauty of voice, because I saw no flaws in his acting--only perfect timing, expression of feeling, and enthusiasm (and, of course, that fabulous voice). A really sweet, romantic movie. Kathryn Grayson also was a favorite ... Read More:

The story line was pretty lame. The acting was fairly poor. But the Scout uniforms and activities were awesome to see if you are an avid Scouter.

8.Monsieur Beaucaire (1946) starring: Bob Hope, Joan Caulfield, Patric Knowles, Marjorie Reynolds, Cecil Kellaway
directed by: George Marshall

VHS : Monsieur Beaucaire (1946)
... I didn't love it, and of the 4 Bob Hope movies I own so far (Monsieur Beaucaire, The Princess & The Pirate, Casanova's Big Night, & Road to Rio), this is my least favorite of the 4. But that isn't bad, all things considered, it's still a very good movie. Somehow, the humor to me just wasn't quite as good as in the other movies I mentioned, but it's okay. Worth getting the vhs at a low price.
