VHS : Dead Man Walking (1995)
It's super easy to tell the Robbins/Sarandon mindset on the issue of capital punishment by watching this movie. While it is well made and engaging, they chose to tell the story in a way which leaves little doubt about their feelings on the issue. That's not a bad thing, but it took some of the impact out of it for me, by overtly dramaticizing certain scenes, particularly the drawn out climax. It just took it to a politicized ending for me , rather than a singularly compelling one. That aside, Sarandon and Penn both ... Read More:

VHS : Lorenzo's Oil
Lorenzo's Oil is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is based on a true story. Be ready for the emotional aspects of it. It is filled with tremendous actors but it is a sad story even though the theme is to find a cure for an illness. I won't give away the story but you will want to see this movie for sure.

VHS : Iron Jawed Angels (P&S)
Even though the title of this movie may sound a little strange, it is a movie worth seeing. The movie focuses on the efforts and determination of Alice Paul and Lucy Burns and their quest to give women the right to vote. I watched this movie for the first time only a couple weeks before the election in November of this year. By watching this movie before I voted for the next President for the first time, I began to realize that if these women and the others who shared their dream did not speak out, I may not have been ... VHS : Critical Care
Lumet does it again. Inspirational and enlightening, Lumet highlights the struggle between what is right and what is expedient. he focuses on the weakness of expediency, the strength of the almighty dollar, and the pull of conscience (for some who have one), always cast aside by profiteers and how the choices are the test of character which most people fail. A great cast: Helen Mirren, James Spader, Kira Sedgewick, Albert Brooks, Anne Bancroft, Ed Herrman, and more, weigh in on profit versus Goodness, "do unto others...". ... Read More:

VHS : Twilight (1998)
When I first saw Twilight in 1998 I knew I was watching a valuable classic. We need a few more like Twilight these days to add intelligence that recent movies with action and adventure lack. We need less high-tech-special-affects and more intriguing dialogue which includes humor, wit and wisdom that Twilight provides in abundance.
Listing the cast only was enough for me to go see the film : Paul Newman,
Gene Hackman, Susan Sarandon, James Garner, Stockard Channing, and with a
supporting cast of not-so-well-known ... Read More:

***** Spoiler Alert *****

Hats off to Mr. Eastwood for getting me to watch a film about women's boxing. I believe that boxing (regardless of gender) is largely barbaric and distasteful.

Add to that, women's boxing is made up in part by ex-prostitutes and ex-strippers, which means that we are heading into degrading territory. Even Frankie deemed female boxing a freak show, rendering him highly reluctant to get involved.

The true heart of this movie is a father-figure daughter-figure love story.

VHS : 28 Days
28 Days is a fabulous movie that stirs many emotions associated with addiction, immaturity, and insecurity. Sandra Bullock plays a character that demonstrates how many perceived strong and "vibrant" people in our lives, are too often driven by hidden insecurities and emotional pain. The movie centers around a beautiful and charismatic woman about 30 years old, that has surrounded her life with equally colorful and insecure people that routinely gather and celebrate in public places, all attempting to demonstrate that they are part of the "in-crowd". ... VHS : The Firm
Legal thrillers rarely satisfy me. It takes a really strong one to peak my interest, hold it and keep me remembering it long after it's through. I guess I just never warmed up to them the way that a lot of movie goers have. That, coupled with the Tom Cruise bug, has kept me away from `The Firm' for some time. I adore Holly Hunter, and her Oscar nomination did make me curious, but as a whole I just wasn't that interested in giving this film a try.

It came on television the other day though, and I had nothing better to do, so I bit.
