VHS : 1492 - Conquest of Paradise
I go to movies for entertainment, and unless the movie has been touted as a 100%, bona fide accurate portrayal of the subject, then I have no problem if facts are embellished. This is Ridley Scott's vision of Christopher Columbus and his quest for the New World, and he has artistic license to create his vision and in my opinion did so magnificently with this film. I never got the feeling that Columbus was made a hero by this movie. The portrayal I saw was of a deeply flawed, brilliant man who did ... Read More:

VHS : Say Anything
This is one of the most down to earth romantic movies I have ever seen. Who would not love to be the object of Lloyd Dobbler's affection. I can see this movie over and over again and never tire of it. John is an incredible actor and is so real, it stings at times.

... despite the mitigation of a Hollywood love story and a fictitious super-hero, but still not as painful as the TRUTH, the true and well-documented story of an ethnic cleansing in Florida in 1923, when, over several days, European-American mobs attacked the peaceful and prosperous African-American village of Rosewood, in Levy County. During the attack, survivors estimated, as many as eighteen African-Americans and two European-Americans were. Most of the buildings, including churches and a school, were burned. ... Read More:

VHS : Mrs Winterbourne
Yes, this movie is cute if not completely unrealistic, improbable and beyond predictable. I liked it, but I have to be realistic when I say that this is not a great movie. The acting is subpar (MacLaine really should have been in more of the film) and the script is very generic. There are all your usual plot twists and developments, the characters are very unoriginal and the ending is as far fetched as they come.

The story is that of Connie Doyle, a young woman who leaves home at a young age, winds up ... Read More:

5.Batman & Mr. Freeze - Subzero starring: Kevin Conroy, Michael Ansara, Loren Lester, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., George Dzundza

VHS : Batman & Mr. Freeze - Subzero
Okay, so we all know that "Batman and Robin" is not only the worst Batman film ever made, but one of the worst movies in general. But imagine if the creators took "Batman vs. Mr. Freeze: Subzero" and put it as the basis for "Batman and Robin." It would've been a spectacular film! But hey, it's now the past, and I've got "Subzero" to enjoy.

This is a great animated film, as great as "Mask of the Phantasm". The mix of traditional 2D animation and 3D animation seems out of balance at times, but the plot is so ... Read More:

6.Billy Bathgate starring: Dustin Hoffman, Nicole Kidman, Loren Dean, Bruce Willis, Steven Hill
directed by: Robert Benton
October 08, 2002
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Billy Bathgate
BILLY BATHGATE (1991) revisits the events of a Post-Prohibition America, from a
nostalgia, romantic, glossy intentional perspective, taking the actual events that
happened, reversing them 180 degrees, especially the overwhelming brutality, violence, ruthless
gangwars, and street rubouts, preferring mostly a fantasy of a boy who is a morale booster
and apprentice of an aging, lead gangster, played magnificently by Dustin Hoffman. The audience
relives the experience of that impoverished working class ... Read More:

directed by: Philip Ridley

VHS : Passion of Darkly Noon
Well, at least it grows on me. I like Philip Ridley's movies because they usually feature Viggo Mortensen, along with the kind of imagery that my brain produces on its own when it's feeling creative. Go into one of his films, and you're where the id and its lawless hankerings define the world and tell the story. You can best savor The Passion of Darkly Noon if you don't allow yourself to go all left-brained and analytical, because this is not a narrative wedded to factuality, and its psychological realism is selective.

I heard ... Read More:

8.Enemy of the State starring: Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight, Lisa Bonet, Regina King
directed by: Tony Scott
November 02, 1999

VHS : Enemy of the State
Ever see a movie that takes you so far that you actually see the characters as someone really talking in front of you? Will Smith, Lisa Bonet and Tom Sizemore (amongst the others), are acting too hard. They weren't convincing enough to make me feel like they were real characters. Again, the action was great. But the acting was contrived and predictable.

VHS : Mumford
Lawrence Kasdan, who has written and/or directed/produced many films, taking one or more such tasks upon himself over decades, first truly came to my conscious name-recognition attention (forgetting his contributions to "Star Wars"), when I initially saw his "Grand Canyon" in a theater and loved it. That was at the beginning of the 90's. I continued to watch it since again and again on the small screen, and have retained a unique fondness for the film throughout the years. Not only is it a great film, but it rings true for me personally as an accurate portrayal of several ... Read More:
