Sarah Wheaton (Glenn Close) is a mail-order bride in 1910 who answers an ad for a "wife" to "make a difference" in a families life. She moves from Maine to Kansas (a long train ride). The man she answers to is Jacob Witting (Christopher Walken). He and his 2 kids (Anna and Caleb) are still mourning the death of his wife, Katherine, after 6 years. She writes to them many times before deciding to do a 30 day trial in which she lives with the family to see how things work out. They go through many hardships ... Read More:

VHS : Resurrection
(*SPOILER WARNING*) Resurrection is loosely based on the experiences of Rosalyn Bruyere, a woman with expansive experience in energy based healing (She was also a technical advisor for the movie). Ellen Burstyn is absolutely realistic in her role as Edna, a woman who awakens from an accident in which she lost her fiance to find she has been endowed with a confusing blessing in the form of the ability to heal. As an agnostic, she finds this gift difficult to resolve, and her journey through her own healing and ... Read More:

VHS : Fried Green Tomatoes
Fried Green Tomatoes starring Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy is definitely a chick flick to say the least. I like this weepy drama but this film is a little too long and depressing. I do appreciate the great acting and friendship concept, watch this film with a best friend. Rent it sometime.

4.Reckless (1984) starring: Aidan Quinn, Daryl Hannah, Kenneth McMillan, Cliff De Young, Lois Smith

VHS : Reckless (1984)
Reckless is truly a classic but it does not get the critic it deserves. While the is about the quintessential good girl meeting bad boy, but the chemistry that Hannah and Quinn have comes across the screen as very authentic. It's the ultimate tale of two opposite attracts. The movie draws you into each one of their lives. It's dramatic, it's mysterous, rebelluous, and romantic. I am surprised it is not on DVD yet because unlike the other movies of the 80's I don't think Reckless is dated. It's a true classic.

VHS : My Foolish Heart
I always loved this movie. It is so heart wrenching and touching. It is worth watching over and over. This is the movie that made me fall in love with Dana Andrews.

It was in very good condition.

6.Dead Man Walking (1995) starring: Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, Robert Prosky, Raymond J. Barry, R. Lee Ermey
directed by: Tim Robbins

VHS : Dead Man Walking (1995)
It's super easy to tell the Robbins/Sarandon mindset on the issue of capital punishment by watching this movie. While it is well made and engaging, they chose to tell the story in a way which leaves little doubt about their feelings on the issue. That's not a bad thing, but it took some of the impact out of it for me, by overtly dramaticizing certain scenes, particularly the drawn out climax. It just took it to a politicized ending for me , rather than a singularly compelling one. That aside, Sarandon and Penn both performed well, ... Read More:

Gives a detailed and brilliant look at the shaping, and reshaping, of what would become the most identifiable city the world has ever seen. From its roots as a dutch trading post, to the construction of Central Park and the Brooklyn Bridge, to the ghettos and tenements of immigrants, through the growth and destruction ushered in by Robert Moses, the financial ruin of the 1970's and the fall of the two towers that mightily stood in its financial district, this documentary covers it all.

An absolutely beautiful project that will give ... Read More:

In 1999,English stage actress and 1997 Broadway Tony Award winner Janet McTeer snagged the GOLDEN GLOBE for her incredibly honest, natural and forthright portrayal of the feisty Southern "tumbleweed" Mary Jo Walker. Her performance ran up against Annette Bening,Meryl Streep,Julianne Moore and ultimate winner Hilary Swank for the top prize at the Oscars.Anyone who loves films that have deeply-etched characters must see TUMBLEWEEDS, because what you get from actress Janet McTeer is almost a rarity in films today,IMO.McTeer who followed this performance with ... It amazes me that no-one seems to undertake a new production of this brilliant story. The movie only deals with a small part - if you've seen the movie, you must read the book.

This is a great, great movie. Tom Conti is superb. Kelly McGillis is perfectly cast too. A gem of a story. I don't understand why this classic is not available on DVD.
