VHS : Prince Brat & Whipping Boy
I bought this movie for my two oldest children back in the mid-90s. I've since lost my VHS copy and had hoped to purchase it on DVD for my daughter who is now six.

The plot was engaging and funny, while there were no swear words or gratuitous violence to contend with. The movie also included excellent cinematography that made the setting (a fictional European country) seem real.

It truly amazes me that this movie isn't on DVD!

VHS : Planes Trains & Automobiles
It is difficult to say which is better - the 85 minutes of comedy that makes you laugh continuously or the 5 minutes of drama that will touch your heart. Undeniably Steve Martin and John Candy are at their hilarious best, but it's probably the latter that will have you pondering this movie long after the credits roll. I come back to it every year at Thanksgiving time - it is a very worthy addition to the many great Christmas season classics that follow. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is not only a great Thanksgiving ... Read More:

If you want Christmas spirit, look no further than "Christmas at Plum Creek." This is a beautiful video with a good message. The entire Ingalls family is struggling to provide their fellow family members with good Christmas gifts, and they end up doing just that by working energetically and making substantial sacrifices. The sacrifice that young Laura makes for her beloved Ma is one that will melt your heart and bring you to embrace the true meaning of Christmas. Sure, we have a three year old at home. Now and then we watch TV together. Since watching movies with my kid is kind of new, I'm looking more closely at what to watch. Just about everything from Pixar and John Lassiter is some of the most inspired stuff I've come across.
The characters, the stories, the animation and the casting all create a high water mark not just for children's viewing but for every one.
"A Bugs Life" is certainly one of the better ones in the group. I can say this after several, and I mean several ... Read More:

VHS : Secondhand Lions (Slip)
This film made me laugh from the inside and left me happy. This is what a movie experience is meant to be. The humor is not crass, the characters quirky, and the main character holds the plot together nicely.
Parts of the film seem a little far-fetched, but that only contributes to its likeability in my eyes. It's clearly the product of someone's imagination, uncluttered by mainstream garbage.
An enjoyable family movie, just don't expect it to hold any lessons on honesty :-)

Seriously though...

Vanilla Ice has the acting skills of a piece of driftwood.

Oh man, this movie is terrible. It's so terrible that I found myself cracking up the majority of the time. It's so mind-numbingly bad that I actually kinda liked watching it. But I just couldn't bring myself to give this crapfest a four or five star rating, no matter how many times I laughed at it. It's basically Vanilla Ice trying to be a neon-clad James Dean with fantastic pickup lines such as, "Drop that zero and get with a hero." Do ... Read More:

This movie did what is called, "tell the truth", but in good taste. Why do I say that? Well it showed how people really can be, but ugly does not have to prevail. Good is a universal description.

VHS : MTV - The State - Skits and Stickers
I happened upon this VHS in a Blockbuster clearance rack about 10 years ago and grabbed it right away. The State had been one of my favorite shows and I needed my 'fix.'

The selection of skits here is great and quite varied. There are a couple notable omissions including Captain Monterey Jack, Old Fashioned Guy and Hits from the 70s. However, if you love off-beat humor and want a good sample of what The State had to offer, this is a great introduction.
