2.5 stars. Poitier is Poitier. I'm starting to believe his whole charm was that he looked good in sixties-styled clothing. But as far as having any depth I've only seen a glimmer of it in A raisin in the sun. The rest, well, they all seem like the same character. Really, there's no difference between this performance and that of A patch of Blue or Guess who's coming to Dinner. Plus if this was the depth of problems in the late sixties then truly it was a generation of spoiled brats. I just ... Read More:

VHS : Poldark 1 (6 VHS Boxed Set)
I had the VHS tapes of Poldark I and Poldark 2, but gave them away as I no longer have a VCR and I was sure they would be made available on DVD sooner or later. Woe is me, that hasn't happened yet and I'm hysterical now that I don't have the tapes because they would be worth buying a VCR to see them. There must be others like me who would relish seeing this fabulous series on DVD. Please, whoever's in charge of such things, release this series on DVD and it will sell like hotcakes.

3.Houdini (1998) starring: Johnathon Schaech, Stacy Edwards, Paul Sorvino, Rhea Perlman, David Warner

VHS : Houdini (1998)
This is a TV movie covering the career, life and afterlife of the illusionist Harry Houdini/Ehrich Weiss. It is a romanticized skeletal treatment, covering the basics of the man (raised in poverty, self taught magician, life long mother issues, medium debunker) without any real depth or showing anything new. It is a well done enough production, recreating some of Houdini's daring feats, and the acting is decent (and Johnathon Schaech certainly looks fit enough to pull off Houdini's escapes and high tolerance for pain) ... VHS : Secret Life of Kathy Mccormick
This is great movie which again reveals the tremendous versatility of Barbara Eden. Although she has played many, many roles she always comes across as in control, not letting anyone get the best of her but still very feminine. When she is taken advantage of by her boyfriend she takes appropriate action by giving him the brushoff (and getting him back). When the society women try to defeat her project she ignores them and plunges ahead and wins . Overall a great plot with the moral- watchout for guys with phoney stories.

5.The Duke starring: John Neville, James Doohan, Courtnee Draper, Jeremy Maxwell, Oliver Muirhead
directed by: Philip Spink
April 18, 2000
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : The Duke
The Duke is a very cute movie that features a live bloodhound and basset hound. Children (and adults) who are dog lovers will enjoy this movie. The story is a little predictable with a happy ending, but that's the way it should be with a movie so adorable! I highly recommend giving The Duke a turn in your DVD player.

6.Berserk! starring: Joan Crawford, Ty Hardin, Diana Dors, Michael Gough, Judy Geeson

VHS : Berserk!
"Berserk!" is perhaps one of Joan's worst films of the 60's and the very worst suspense/horror film she ever made. The story is so over-the-top. Joan plays Monica Rivers, a lady ringmaster who decides to milk the publicity from a string of strange murders. The movie is still not totally worthless. Joan always gave a great performance no matter how ludicrous the script was and this is certainly no exception. This movie totally reminds me of another one of Joan's cult-classics, Johnny Guitar. Not just because it's incredibly dreadful and ... Read More:

The Art of Storytelling: How To Write A Story....Any Story
Shadow Watcher
Nobody Drowns in Mineral Lake

Even though this WW2 espionage drama is well made and completely engrossing, it's a hard picture to embrace...primarily because there is nobody in it that you can like and want to root for during the first hour or so.

True, Michael Caine and Robert Duvall play "good Germans"; honorable soldiers who detest Hitler and his policies, but are sworn to do all they can for their country. And, Donald Sutherland, ... Read More:

Story of serial killer John Christie and the wrongful execution of Timothy Evans in the 1950s. Subtle performance of main character and supporting cast, character depth and quality of direction are in contrast to the typically sensational films of this genre. Setting (filmed at the location of the events) and detail recreate the working-class poverty of postwar Britain. Similar in tone to "Vera Drake" (2004).

9.Brannigan starring: John Wayne, Richard Attenborough, Judy Geeson, Mel Ferrer, John Vernon
directed by: Douglas Hickox
April 01, 1992
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Wayne's second try at following Clint's lead from the sagebrush to a modern urban setting is basically a retread of Coogan's Bluff and it's not bad. There are still some right-wing complaints about civil liberties, but the tone is more amiable than McQ. Everything's pretty diverting until we get to the drawn-out "funny" bare-knuckle brawl that doesn't work here any better than it did a few years earlier in The Undefeated.
