VHS : Inspector Morse - Driven to Distraction
This entry provides another variation of stories in the Morse series. The apparent unrelated murder of three women challenges Morse to find a common denominator which will tie the deaths together. With no apparent link, Morse begins to reach for clues. The music of Cole Porter is our background sound track as Morse becomes obsessed with an auto dealer as the culprit. To this end homes are entered and searched without a warrant and an arrest is made without probable cause - all of which incurs ... Read More:

VHS : Inspector Morse - The Day of the Devil
One of my favourites of all of the Morse series, this is more of a treatise on the relationship of men to women as opposed to the superficial concerns with satanic worship which permeate the plot.

All of the usual attributes of a good Morse yarn are here for viwers to enjoy, the calm piecing together of the disparate clues and evidence, the thought that looks into motive and intent and the characteristically typical Oxford outlook for our Chief Inspector.

The villain at the centre ... Read More:

I am buying all of the Inspector Morse series because they are all great video! I have not bought one that I did not like. I buy a lot of British made movies because they are by far better made than most American over payed and under talanted actors. Pamela Wavde

In the hands of director Richard Attenborough, Charlie Chaplin's life story becomes a sweeping and touching drama. Robert Downey, Jr. gives an unforgettable performance as Chaplin, who rose from the slums of London to become Hollywood's favorite silent movie character, the Tramp. Along the way, Charlie had to deal with his mother's insanity, his love affairs, marriages, and a paternity scandal, all involving much younger women, and investigation by none other than J. Edgar Hoover.

This very entertaining story ... Read More:

This is a 'nice' movie, with a typically strong performance from John Thaw. However, if you have read the novel, you may find this small screen adaptation disappointing. To compact this touching story into 90 minutes the director has sacrificed any real character development, and in doing so has lost most of the emotional impact created in the novel. Still, it's okay for a rainy afternoon.

VHS : Inspector Morse - Happy Families
This installment is an atypical Morse. It is a straight "who done it?" which is quite good for that genre. Being completely void of the personal side of Morse and thus depriving us of our much anticipated diversions, we look to the paparazzi, who are covering the detective as opposed to the investigation, believing Morse will make better copy - but alas we are not privy to the published articles. The paparazzi - and there are many of them due to the prominence of the family involved - become quite an annoyance for Morse as does Superintendent ... Read More:

This episode provides yet another wrinkle in the Morse series. Over and above the mystery itself, are confrontations that run throughout this entry - between Superintendent Strange, Detective Chief Inspector Johnson, Sergeant Lewis and of course Morse. They don't take sides but rather clash within themselves, two or three at a time, frequently changing allegiances. This by play adds much to the story. As for the mystery: a prison inmate indicates, before his death, he did not kill the last of the five women he is incarcerated for. Johnson insists he ... Read More:

VHS : Inspector Morse - Fat Chance
A priest goes bad, a "Fat Chance" girl goes missing, communion wine may have been poisoned, another girl is thrown from her bicycle - and the bike goes missing; the same girl collapses during an exam; Morse becomes involved with yet another woman. all these events provides sufficient material for a good Morse episode. But with all these happenings the plot really doesn't go anywhere - we as viewers go many places during the unfolding of the story, but our interest is not peaked. The personalities alone help our entry to three stars but, alas, the story just ... Read More:

VHS : Inspector Morse - Deadly Slumber
This compact entry features a relatively small cast of major participants - one is in hospital, brain dead, while another is murdered during the opening scenes, leaving four suspects. A heart attack eliminates one more, and a second murder brings our number to two. This size cast makes it easy to follow their movements; but the plot is so well done we are left in the dark as to the fate of the last two until all is revealed. Morse and the father of the brain dead girl find crosswords and pubs in common - Morse also forms an empathetic attachment to the father as he sees ... Read More:

Morse and Lewis go to jail! It is a minimum security prison which also allows inmates privileges not found in other penal institutions; it's an experiment, with a female governor overseeing the operation. Our beloved pair is there to investigate the death of Lawrence Cryer who was incarcerated at the facility, along with his two cohorts in crime, for a bunko scheme from which the money has never been recovered. Cryer's two partners are obvious suspects as are those investors who lost their money to the scheme. Joining in the investigation is Detective Sergeant Cheetham who ... Read More:
