If you're looking for a Book turned into a movie--this is it but in a very obscure fashion. This movie takes the stereotypes that Long writes about in his short novel and basically flips them around here. Here you have the American man, but it is he that is hopelessly inlove with the Asian "woman" (using that term lightly). She is the one that is full of decite and ends up betraying him. At the end, he has to realize that he, not only was abdoned and betrayed, but it was by a man. This movie ... Read More:

VHS : The Last Emperor
This review is not so much a review of the movie or this release in particular. It would seem that there will be no shortage of glorious reviews of this movie and I would just be adding my voice to the gale winds of appraise. I write this to clear up the common mis-perception that the longer cut of this movie is a director's cut.

The previously released longer cut of The Last Emperor which was released on DVD and subsequently labeled as a "Director's Cut" is in fact a longer, made for television ... Read More:

VHS : King Kong (1976)
I'm not a big fan of King Kong, but I have seen all three films: 1933, 1976, and 2005. The original 1933 film is a classic in its own right. The 2005 remake could've been better, but it had its moments. And right in the middle, the first 1976 remake is a love-or-hate motion picture. There are no dinosaurs, no chewing on natives, and no famous T-rex fight, which makes it a bit less exciting. Unlike the others, which are set in 1933, this one is set in the 70's. It's filled with politics, environmental issues, industrial ... Read More:

I love this movie and my only issue is that the VCR version, subtitled when the characters spoke French - some very amusing asides are lost in the DVD version because the French is not subtitled. Otherwise, I can't recommend it enough.

5.Rush Hour 2 starring: Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, John Lone, Ziyi Zhang, Roselyn Sanchez
directed by: Brett Ratner
December 11, 2001
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Rush Hour 2
This movie surpasses the first movie and has the perfect blend of action and comedy. A highly recommended buy that is re-watchable.

6.The Hunted starring: Christopher Lambert, John Lone, Joan Chen, Yoshio Harada, Yôko Shimada
directed by: J.F. Lawton
March 26, 1996
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : The Hunted
An enjoyable movie but too bad John Lone's immitation of a Japanese wasn't very good. You would think that there were suitable Japanese actors available to fill that roll. I guess they were looking for some name recognition rather than anything more authentic. At least Joan Chen didn't try to speak Japanese.

7.The Last Emperor - Director's Cut starring: John Lone, Joan Chen, Peter O'Toole, Ruocheng Ying, Victor Wong
directed by: Bernardo Bertolucci

VHS : The Last Emperor - Director's Cut
If you enjoyed this movie as much as I did you will want it in you DVD library, however, be aware of the fact that there is a Chinese version which is in Mandarin. I ordered the Chinese version by mistake because at the time it was not clear that it was not in English.

8.Shadow of China starring: John Lone, Koichi Sato, Sammi Davis, Vivian Wu, Roland Harrah III
directed by: Mitsuo Yanagimachi
June 13, 1997
Average Rating: out of 5 stars
>>More Details
VHS : Shadow of China
'Shadow of China' has so much going for it: a multi-layered story involving mainland China and Hong Kong; the protagonist fleeing China and moving up in the world, yet still saddled with a dark past; the imminent take-over from the British....pity it is so amateurishly executed.

John Lone and Vivian Wu are attractive leads, but the scripting and direction are poor, to say the least.

The clumsy dialogue is played with lines delivered as if chiseled in stone, and there are next to no scenes that really pick up enough to make ... Read More:

10.Year of the Dragon starring: Mickey Rourke, John Lone, Ariane, Leonard Termo, Raymond J. Barry
directed by: Michael Cimino
September 01, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars
>>More Details
VHS : Year of the Dragon
Michael Cimino said part of the reason he made it Year of the Dragon was to prove that he could come in on time and on budget (which he did) after being fired from Footloose for asking for a very minor increase in the budget (can you blame them after Heaven's Gate?) and seeing The Yellow Jersey and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (a four hour western with most of the dialog in Sioux? Sure, Mr Cimino, and shall we declare bankruptcy now to save time?) fall through. Tempting fate, Cimino even cast two of the bit players from Heaven's Gate in the leads, Mickey ... Read More:
