VHS : Treasure Island (1990)
This is indeed the very best film version of Robert Louis Stevenson's definitive pirate adventure ever made. Christian Bale plays the young Jim Hawkins and Charlton Heston is Long John Silver, and both are excellent. Add Christopher Lee as Blind Pew and the rest of a terrific cast including Oliver Reed, Clive Wood, and Julian Glover among the many actors that bring the story to life. Filmed on location in Jamaica and on the awesome ship Hispaniola, the scenery and cinematography are marvelous.

VHS : Poldark 1 (6 VHS Boxed Set)
I had the VHS tapes of Poldark I and Poldark 2, but gave them away as I no longer have a VCR and I was sure they would be made available on DVD sooner or later. Woe is me, that hasn't happened yet and I'm hysterical now that I don't have the tapes because they would be worth buying a VCR to see them. There must be others like me who would relish seeing this fabulous series on DVD. Please, whoever's in charge of such things, release this series on DVD and it will sell like hotcakes.

VHS : Frankenstein
Given that I already own The Monster Legacy Collection (Frankenstein / Dracula / The Wolf Man) (busts and all), I hemmed, hawed, and read other reviews prior to purchasing the 75th Anniversary Edition. However, an Amazon seller listed an offer I couldn't refuse, so I bit and, all things considered, have no cause for regrets.
The Good: First, the print looks and sounds better than the previous releases. Nice and clean with deep blacks, good contrast, and very little damage, the video is solid and a pleasure to watch. However, I'm ... Read More:

VHS : Kaleidoscope (1966)
I totally agree with these reviewers: "Kaleidoscope" needs to be on DVD because the writing is on the wall and that is: Movies on CD's are here to stay. My estimation is that it will come out sometime next year as part of a Warren Beatty box set that Warner Brothers has been doing the last two years since as you know "Bonnie and Clyde" is most likely to be re-released on DVD to celebrate its 40th anniversary (yikes!) and be in that set. Let's wait and see.

8.Hamlet (1969) starring: Nicol Williamson, Judy Parfitt, Anthony Hopkins, Marianne Faithfull, Mark Dignam

VHS : Hamlet (1969)
Tony Richardson has not received ample praise for successfully transferring a Shakespeare play to cinema in this marvelous film. Watch how Olivier grapples with the problem in films such as Henry V and then see how simply Richardson dissolves the question of whether what we see is on a stage or is supposed to be in a real-world setting by filming the actors in closeup predominantly and keeping the setting genuinely "in the background"--and a shadowy one at that. It helps that he filmed Hamlet, of course, set in the moody castle at Elsinore. Williamson ... Read More:

9.Touched by Love starring: Diane Lane, Deborah Raffin, Michael Learned, John Amos, Cristina Raines

VHS : Touched by Love
I finally gave up waiting for the DVD so I bought the VHS tape. It's a great story and the usual superb performance by Diane Lane. I have all of her movies that are available including three others only available on VHS (National Lampoon Goes to the Movies, Lady Beware, and Priceless Beauty). A movie can't possibly be bad if she's in it. Priceless Beauty came close but Ms. Lane managed to salvage even that one.

10.Race for the Double Helix starring: Jeff Goldblum, Tim Pigott-Smith, Alan Howard, Juliet Stevenson, Betsy Brantley
