| A long way from the Hollywoodised version of a Lonesome Dove sequel seen in `Return from Lonesome Dove', this is Larry McMurty's riposte to the way the Studio handled that sequel. Where `Return..' dealt with the cattle barons and themes of redemption and wholesome endings, this is a stark and realistic portrayal of the West. | In the mid-70's James Garner & Louis Gossett teamed up in two memorable episodes of "The Rockford Files". Before that, however, they starred in "The Skin Game" with Susan Clark (best known as the mother on the t.v. show "Webster"). The Skin game is a smart comedy which also functions as an effective critique of the institution of slavery. | This is a fabulous movie. Great plot, cute kids, clean humor (even the adult parts) without being cheesy and old fashioned. This is my absolute favorite Doris Day movie. Every actor, including the kids, pulls it off so believably. I highly recommend this movie for every Doris Day or James Garner fan and even those who aren't. |

| I watched this movie again on cable for the umpteenth time recently, and I just have to comment on the one editorial review by Bruce Diones of The New Yorker:
He says "the film is as bland and sentimental as a greeting card." Mr. Diones clearly is not in possession of a beating heart in his chest. | This is such a great movie. I am really surprised that it is not on DVD yet. As far as I can tell, Fox Movie Channel is the only network that plays it and that is not offered with our cable package. I would buy a couple of copies if it were on DVD. |

| For anyone who thinks that Julie Andrews is nothing more than a mere song and dance routine, or the voice behind that infectiously annoying `hills are alive' song I have only one thing to say to you; watch `Victor/Victoria'. I happened to stumble onto this film last night and I have thought of nothing else since. Sure, it has yet to be 24 hours but honestly, it is the ONLY thing that I have thought of since the credits began to roll. | Although not for everybody, this film gives us insight into the struggles of Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob the founders of AA. I think the acting was excellent. The characters were portrayed wonderfully by James Woods and James Garner. I learned a lot from this film and would recommend it to anybody who is involved in a 12 step program or works with recovery. |

I have all Cameron Hawley's books in hardcover, and am glad to say Executive Suite has finally been issued on DVD. However, where is Cash McCall, it is way past time for it to appear. Warner Brothers is very tardy in issuing some of their better genre work, with Cash McCall being one. Yellowstone Kelly with Clint Walker and the 2nd season of Cheyenne being two more.
