| Yes, this has faults, many glaring. But it was created for the Texas Sesquicentennial celebration and was aired during the time of year of the battle (if I remember correctly). | To echo many, why isn't this film on dvd? "Wagonmaster" has the visual look of a silent western. Also, it's character driven rather than plot, and the villainous Cleggs offer a perfect counter to the leisurely, unfolding story. Their unwelcome arrival in camp and subsequent conduct is the spice needed to make the rest of the story work. There's a brief, superb visual moment, when the wagon train is scene rolling along in the distance. You hear faint singing by the riders but no orchestral accompaniment. | I'm so glad these Gunsmoke movies are being released on DVD. But, can someone tell me why this wasn't released as a 3 DVD set and not indivdidual DVD's. Like the "Sarah Plain and Tall" 3 movie saga. It was released with all 3 movies together in one case. I'm pretty sure most people are going to purchase all 3 movies of gunsmoke. I'm thinking "SPACE", "ROOM" to keep all these DVD's that are being released or have been released. Not everyone has all the space in there home for so many shows being released on DVD. | I got this movie in VHS, long before it was offered online and it was tough to find in the video store. When I first saw it I had no clue about Matt Dillon's history with Michael Yardner until one day I saw the original Gunsmoke episode. I confess, I got this movie because of Joe Lara who plays Mandac, whom I didn't know of when I first saw this movie on television. It wasn't until Mr. Lara played in Tarzan: The Epic Adventures that I began to collect his movies, this being one of them--and I might add, in my collection only this movie and another of his are worth watching. | I have always been a huge fan of Gunsmoke the series. When this movie came out I was a little skeptical at first about buying it since most movies that are based on a TV show that was as successful and legendary as Gunsmoke aren't usually all that great, but being the Gunsmoke fan that I am, I purchased it anyway. I'm glad I did. This is a great movie. James Arness, Amanda Blake, Buck Taylor and Steve Forrest all played thier former charactors extremely well. This movie made me feel like I was watching the show again, even to the point where it even ended like the shows did with Matt ... Read More: |
