VHS : The Straight Story
In 1999, one of the most unusual pairings in Hollywood history formed to make a film telling the story of Alvin Straight's odyssey: David Lynch and Walt Disney Pictures. Lynch, arguably one of film's more daring storytellers, the mind behind Eraserhead, Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks, is absolutely the very last filmmaker I would ever have believed to team with Disney, except perhaps David Cronenberg. His films often navigate the darkest waters of the human experience with an unflinching eye for images ... Read More:

VHS : Agatha Christie's Miss Marple Collection 2 (VHS Boxed Set)
On my TV set with my DVD player all of the discs looked and sounded fine.
I enjoy Helen Hayes for being Helen Hayes and Margaret Rutherford for being Margaret Rutherford but for Agatha Christies Miss Marple Jane Hickson wins hands down. I have tried only one of the latest British entry and she, too, appears quite able but Ms. Hickson has set the standard for authenticity (which, quite legitimately, was not the objective of Ms. Hayes or Ms. Rutherford).
To one who has never been to the UK, the ... Read More:

Good news, since it is a BBC Mobile Masterpiece Theatre production, I found it at my local library and it is also available at a website called the public video store. I encourage you to seek it out as the plot contains real character arcs and it has an excellent cast. Pre-Bond (and ever-so attractive) Daniel Craig is just excellent as Sergeant McLoughlin, a somewhat alcoholic policeman whose wife has recently left him. The sergeant develops a rather pervy attraction for one of the three (possibly lesbian) ... Read More:

I love period peices but...this film takes on characteristics of a low budget, poorly done film....I am still amused when I think of how bad the acting was in this movie...

A previous reviewer said best western ever. NO WAY. It has the star power but EXTREMELY SLOW going and way too many cliches.

This really does get going well. Martin is a geeky teen. He's lonely,or rather alone in realms of physics and math he has no one to share with. And, as in so many teen fanatasies with a paranoid edge, he's a target of vindictive teachers and school administration. When an invitation to a school for gifted children suddenly appears, seemingly from nowhere, he leaps at it.

It exceeds anything he could have guessed at. He has huge freedom in his studies and schedule, amenities like a five-star hotel, and adults that treat him deferentially ... Read More:
