VHS : Matewan
This is a great movie. That being said, the events it is alleged to portray are only a small part of THIS film. There's a story being told by Mr. Sayles about the conditions in which the miners and their families lived, what their prospects for improvement were, the efforts to unionize the coal fields, and the efforts to thwart the unionization of the same, but beware that you understand that Mr. Sayles was telling a story that only refers to what happened in Matewan and Bloody Mingo in 1920-1921. ... VHS : Eight Men Out
Eight Men Out tells the story about one of baseball's darkest days; the 1919 World Series scandal. Eight baseball players from the White Sox team decide to throw the World Series due to the own of the team poor treatment to the players. Though one of them, Buck Weaver, defends his innocents. The movie seems to be true to fact, but it suggests it all took place in the same year. The players were not banned from baseball til the end of the 1920. If nothing else, like the period clothing back then.

3.City of Hope starring: Jace Alexander, Angela Bassett, Chris Cooper, Anthony John Denison, Frankie Faison

VHS : City of Hope
Neither fans nor detractors seem to have a clue what this movie is about. The best window on the theme is Tierney's statement. Everyone does deals, gives and takes favors. That's not a lamentable fact of urban life. It's the reality for social creatures. That's enobling and tragic, and all of Sayles characters are in it. All except the autistic guy, who can only parrot another's cry for help. A brilliant explication of a fundamental truth of human existence.

4.Mistress starring: Robert Wuhl, Martin Landau, Vasek Simek, Thomas R. Voth, Jace Alexander
directed by: Barry Primus

VHS : Mistress
Absolutely on a par with Altman's 'The Player' and the perfect companion piece to 'Living In Oblivion', 'Mistress' is a darkly comic delight from start to finish.

To begin with, the performances alone are worth the price of the DVD and then some. I mean, what a cast! (Even Christopher Walken appears in a memorable cameo.) And all give uniformly superb performances. But Martin Landau stands out, even in this array of top-notch portrayals. He clearly deserved another Oscar nod for his remarkable work in this, ... VHS : Love & A 45 (Blue Sky Art) (Sp)
This is one of my favorite movies of all time! It has a good plot, kinda similar to true romance. If you like the outlaw love stories, with the occasional murder, and drug scenes, this is right up your alley.
