VHS : Year of the Comet
This movie has gotten some unnecessarily bad press. It's basically a Cinderella story with wine. The performances are excellent and the Louis Jourdan subplot is clever. This is a straightforward romantic comedy with some international adventure elements. The script is by the great William Goldman. I've seen it again and again. It's sweet and endearing and the wine information is accurate. Check it out. You have nothing to lose and you probably have a wine-loving friend or two who will find ... Read More:

If you're looking for a Book turned into a movie--this is it but in a very obscure fashion. This movie takes the stereotypes that Long writes about in his short novel and basically flips them around here. Here you have the American man, but it is he that is hopelessly inlove with the Asian "woman" (using that term lightly). She is the one that is full of decite and ends up betraying him. At the end, he has to realize that he, not only was abdoned and betrayed, but it was by a man. This movie had great ... Read More:

VHS : The Man in The Iron Mask: Literary Masterpieces
No offence to DiCaprio but Richard Chamberlain's duel role of "The Man in the Iron Mask" was definitely better. It amazes me only foreign versions of this on DVD are available. Why not a Region 1 version? Chamberlain did three wonderful Dumas classics, this "The Count of Monte Cristo", and "The Three Musketeers". The first two are not available on Region 1 DVDs after all these years. Great movie that I highly recommend for the whole family. Let's hope someone like Criterion gets the rights for both Chamberlain's Dumas movies ... Read More:

Terry Gilliam's unique satire is as funny as it is absurd and dark. With the character of Sam Lowry he created the perfect anti-hero, not in the least thanks to the brilliant performance by Jonathan Pryce.

Equally well known is the conflict that Gilliam had to enter into to get his movie released as he wanted it, because the studio heads suddenly got not only cold feet but also the crazy notion to have a happy ending and drastically make cuts in the movie to make it shorter. Gilliam took the right approach, organized a film ... Read More:

VHS : Tales From the Crypt (1972)
a tremendous entry in the delightful amicus multi-scary-story films of the 1960s and 70s . all are worth checking out (ownership of all titles is a great investment) . they just don't make them like this any more . and never will again .

VHS : Monsignor Quixote
The sweet, intelligent story of a simple and pure village priest (Alec Guinness as Quixote) inconveniently promoted to monsignor through a twist of fate, and his communist ex-mayor friend/traveling companion (Leo McKern as Sancho). Their antogonists are post-Franco Spain (late 1970's) and to a greater degree, the formal bureaucracy within the Roman Catholic Church (don't worry, both God and the Church recieve due honor here - just not in the traditional formal manner).

A wonderful, wonderful film - as is the novel. I was struck by a quality of this ... Read More:

The TV picture was awesome. Lots of action with great action. What also really impressed me was the sound, If you are a World War II movie fan, then this is a must addition to your library.
I purchased this picture as a gift for my son who lives and works in Thailand. I was concerned that it wouldn't play on his Play Station 3 Japanese unit. FYI it worked just fine.

VHS : Dragonslayer
There's a lot of heart that went into this film, and the innovation of Phil's stop-motion procedure breathes life into the dragon. On the heals of early ILM work in the 80's, the main focus, however, still dwells with character development and political/ religious commentary.
If the film could somehow be re-mastered, I'd enjoy the product more. As it is, there are many poorly illuminated scenes that are hard for me to see on the tv. During such plentiful moments, this does make a good movie to listen to while doing other things, such as artwork, knitting, or cooking.
