VHS : Gandhi
This is a movie everyone who can should see. It is deeply moving through most of it. Some viewers will see humor in it as well. The superlatives are too numerous to list in a short review. Some viewers will be disappointed in spots. To be more realistic, the film would need to exlore Gandhi's mere mortal side (as starters, his wife suggests he cheated on his celebacy oath a few times). It also would need to exlore his showman side (as starters, he wore his loincloth when visiting England in very ... Read More:

I grew up with the Tarzan movies and TV show and read all the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels and this one, "Tarzan, the Legend of Greystoke" is my very favorite of all of them. The storyline and actors are all superb. You can't beat it.

A hard-to-find film, and even in VHS it's worth it. The late, great Ian Charleson is a sympathetic spy, and Edward Woodward surprises fans of The Equalizer with his complex characterization. These two actors never made enough films. And the plot is worthy of the greatest spy thrillers out there. Trust and betrayal, love and hatred, with enough irony to satisfy the most demanding viewer.

VHS : Prisoners of the Lost Universe
"Prisoners of the Lost Universe" is a mid-80's fantasy piece that is so ludicrous that it's funny. I debated long and hard about what rating to give it, but finally settled on three stars as the unintentionally amusing moments are both mirthful and plentiful.

The film starts with an annoying television science reporter, Carrie Madison (Kay Lenz), hosting her weekly show "The Weird and the Wacky." In this introductory segment you see her go face to face with a hooded cobra. Due to some minor musical exposure the ... Read More:

Since I'm an Argento review virgin reviewing Argento (at the coercion of some fellow Amazon denizens) during our annual Horrorween month celebration, I'll start from the beginning. I happened across Suspiria one night on cable. "Love at first sight" is the only pertinent phrase to describe the feeling. That is how I discovered Italy's macabre national treasure, Dario Argento. Since then we've crossed paths often, be it his collaborations with personal hero George Romero, the B-movies he's produced like Demons, or the occasional giallo ... Read More:

VHS : Jubilee
In "Jubilee," Derek Jarman's nightmare of a film, Elizabeth I is given a glimpse of a future England. It is a society in which one decadent mogul Borgia Ginz owns everything, from British landmarks to media companies. He is feared by Wall Street and adored by those seeking to become the next big thing, including rocker Kid (a disconcertingly innocent-looking Adam Ant) who is rechristened "Scum" because "it is commercial." Tellingly, "Plastic Surgery" is the song by which he hopes to shoot to stardom.

Violent punk anarchists are the ... Read More:
