VHS : Flight of the Phoenix (1965)
This may not have won any awards, but it is a great story superbly acted by a stellar cast. Infinitely better than the recent trashy remake. The interplay between the characters is finely done and keeps you hooked from start to finish. Best film of 1965 without a doubt and definitely an important addition to anyone's history of cinema collection.

VHS : George's Island
I feel this film was missed by the population at large. It is an absolutely wonderful little film. I suppose it falls under the genre of "Family Film" although it is a bit gritty in places (head chopping ghost pirates, after all!) and filled with funny moments that might be lost on younger children (nothing profane or rude, just minute and hilarious). All of the performances are truly top-notch, notably the Grandfather, Ian Bannen, the Teacher, Sheila McCarthy, and the Social Worker, Maury Chaykin. The latter ... Read More:

VHS : To Walk With Lions
To Walk With Lions is a nice film in the better sense of the word. Focussing on George Adamson's later years trying to protect his lion reserve from poachers and government closure, it's a more honest and less Disneyfied take on the material than the whitewashed Born Free, as a surprisingly good cameo by Honor Blackman as a temperamental and manipulative Joy Adamson underlines. Richard Harris looks the spitting image of Adamson (he has the look of that type of white African) and surprisingly leonine, although ... Read More:

VHS : Gandhi
This is a movie everyone who can should see. It is deeply moving through most of it. Some viewers will see humor in it as well. The superlatives are too numerous to list in a short review. Some viewers will be disappointed in spots. To be more realistic, the film would need to exlore Gandhi's mere mortal side (as starters, his wife suggests he cheated on his celebacy oath a few times). It also would need to exlore his showman side (as starters, he wore his loincloth when visiting England in very cold weather).

5.Dr. Finlay (Doctor Finlay Box Set) starring: David Rintoul, Ian Bannen

VHS : Catherine Cookson's Fifteen Streets
Fifteen Streets is about a poor family, and the love of one brother, John for an upper-class school teacher. As usual in Cookson's stories there is a hard gritty edge. People live, people die, and no punches are pulled (sometimes literally) to spare the reader from the sordid realities of hard life during the times. (Presumably 19th century England).

In general, while I enjoyed this film, I didn't much care for John and his family. John's father was an a drunk, his brother a criminal, and the rest of his family not remarkable, ... Read More:

VHS : From Beyond the Grave
Amicus is a film studio that made their name from making horror anthology movies such as this. The film consists of several small morality tales with an interlinking back story. The first film they made in this style was the excellent Dr. Terror's House Of Horrors and this was their final effort, and also the best one in my honest opinion. From Beyond The Grave is an atmospheric horror film filled with unusual twists and turns and a uniformly high level of acting with a great British cast, Amicus Studios made a specialty of producing films in this type ... VHS : Gathering Storm
This 1974 made for TV movie stars Richard Burton as Winston Churchill. This is the first film titled "The Gathering Storm" another film was later released with the same title. They are both UK/US co-productions. I believe this film with Burton to be superior mostly because of his performance of the British leader. It was also known as "A Walk with Destiny". It played on British BBC TV and on ABC here in the US. However, this film is NOT available yet on DVD. I don't believe either here or in the UK. The feature is 72mins long and well worth viewing for ... Read More:
