VHS : Disney's 101 Dalmatians
Modern technology has taken live-action filmmaking to limitless heights, but there are still some stories that are more suited for feature-animation. Dodie Smith's "The Hundred and One Dalmatians" is one of them. Walt Disney knew this and his "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" is one of the most loved animated films of all time. Unfortunately, director John Hughes did not and his live-action remake, "101 Dalmatians, comes up short in the end.

It is not a bad film, but it is incredibly ... Read More:

VHS : Son of Ali Baba
To the first reviewer on this site who thought Son of Ali Baba was the movie where Piper Laurie wiggled through the bars: The movie you are thinking of was called "The Prince Who Was a Thief" and it is a far better movie than this one. Unfortunately, it is a WB movie and still has not been released on DVD or even on VHS (legally) that I know of. If you ever can get a copy of it, this is the movie you were thinking of. It is one of my favorites.

VHS : Life with Judy Garland - Me and My Shadows
This is undoubetdly the greatest biopic ever made. It's been several years since I first saw it on television and no matter where I go, I still hear people talking about it. I don't think I've ever experienced another television movie that has had such a strong and lasting hold on it's audience. It manages to get under the skin of it's central character, the phenomenal Judy Garland. It tells the story of her triumphant and often unhappy life as straight and honestly as any movie possible can, never letting us forget ... Read More:

I WATCHED THIS MOVIE A LONG TIME AGO ON THE DISNEY CHANNEL, AND I DID RECORD IT, BUT I WOULD LIKE IT ON DVD FOR REGION 1.

VHS : Discovering the Real World of Harry Potter
Hugh Laurie, currently famous as the cynical doctor on "House" and Stephen Fry's comical foil on "Jeeves and Wooster",provides narration for this "special" about the "real" world of Harry Potter. As a narrator, Laurie is wonderful. He has an expressive voice, and is clearly having fun, despite the boring script.

There are tours of Oxford, Cambridge, English boarding schools, even an interview with a so-called "white witch" who claims broom-riding powers(???) It sounds more exciting than it is.

Seeing this ... Read More:

VHS : Bonnie Prince Charlie
Despite the subject matter I found this movie to be quite dull. This is unfortunate as the story of the '45 Rebellion is anything but that! I think the casting of David Niven as the Prince was a bad choice. While he tries to put energy into the role, Niven is just too English! Also, from what we know of the Prince he was not such an inspiring figure. Like most of the Stewarts he tended to be moody, headstrong and could come across as detached and arrogant. He was also quite foriegn in his outlook and knew little about Scotland other ... Read More:

I like this show and all, but every time John Malkovich has a line I cringe. I don't know who cast him for this role. He can't act. I would laugh as he talks, but I really want to like the movie.

This humorous series always makes me wonder... WHY do so many women WANT to be engaged to Bertie Wooster?

Anyways, this is a great series. The scene where the village judge talks about "providing assumed names" is priceless! The costumes, the scenary and the acting all contribute to making this a great program, but of course it is Wodehouse's writing which clinches this as an awesome show (even though some liberty has been taken with his work).

Well worth finding!

VHS : The Very First Jeeves & Wooster Box Set
"Do you know how a male newt proposes, Bertie? He just stands in front of the female newt vibrating his tail and bending his body in a semi-circle."

Hands down, this was the funniest part of the whole season one. No, I know, it doesn't sound funny, but it's a visual thing. Trust me, it's worth it. I'd give the last two episodes of season one five stars, but the first three earn only three stars because, well, it's a bit of a slow-moving show. And I'm not just talking about its lack of explosions and other CGI-eye-candy present in most ... Read More:
