I did it. I bought a Disney movie -- I mean a kids-oriented one. And then... I actually showed it to my kids (first I watched it again, just to make sure).

This is so totally out of character for me, that it *does* deserve a gasp of surprise.

Because Disney. DISNEY! No positive male role-models DISNEY! Every male character is a fool, a tool, a slob, or a villain DISNEY! Forget about little boys, because only girls are celebrated DISNEY! And yes, I still think that ... Read More:

This is a personal favorite. The author of the book, Nevil Shute, was an aircraft engineer and worked on the Airship R100. He also worked with the famous inventor Barnes Wallis. These facts give the film some credibility in regards to metallergy. Reading the book might give insight into the accuracy the film-maker put into the scientific statements Stewart's character spoke.

Regardless of the details it is still a good picture.

It's Jolly Olde England, Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon are on the throne, and royal marriages are made to strengthen political ties. Henry wants to cement an alliance with France by marrying his sister Mary to the aged King Louis XII, even though the spunky, flirtatious Mary has set her cap on Charles Brandon, a commoner. Henry prevails, of course, after promising that should Louis die, Mary can then wed anyone of her choosing. As luck would have it, Louis dies a mere two months later, she marries Brandon, and they ... Read More:

6.Shake Hands With the Devil starring: James Cagney, Don Murray, Dana Wynter, Glynis Johns, Michael Redgrave
directed by: Michael Anderson
September 01, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Shake Hands With the Devil
James Cagney made according my personal opinion, a tour de force performance and his most superb artistic achievement, personifying the leader of IRA. Through the innocent gaze of a naïve student who sudden and accidentally becomes involved in rebel activities, Cagney will exert on him a spelling influence but gradually he will realize the core of the human being behind the mask: a murderous fanatic.

A ravishing jewel of Michael Anderson, one of the best and remarkable British filmmakers ever.

Yes, I am one of "those girls". I can watch this over and over and still swoon over the sheer cuteness of a heartfelt comedy that happily takes the ridiculous in stride. This is Sandra Bullock at the top of romance game playing an orphaned subway employee whose crush conveniently gets mugged into a coma on her watch. What follows is a sweet comedy about a girl without a family suddenly thrown into one.

VHS : Dear Brigitte (1965)
Dear Brigitte is one of the funniest comedies from the 1960s, about a tone-deaf, color-blind boy genius with one interest: Brigitte Bardot. James Stewart plays professor Robert Leaf, a typical college professor (when speaking of college professors typical means liberal, but this was 40 years ago and labels change). Leaf teaches poetry, lives in a houseboat in San Francisco, vocally opposes nuclear power and progress in general. He has an original way to make the family stick together - family concerts. His daughter calls him square. Leaf's ... Read More:

Like many of you, I was fortunate enough to have this wonderful movie shown when I was in elementary school. I never forgot it. It may sound corny, but they don't make movies like this for kids anymore. It is a simple, yet moving tale that reminds us of the truly important things in life. It is a shame that it's never aired anywhere anymore. In this day and age, children of all ages are in dire need of a story that actually teaches them something many of us tend to forget along the way. If you ever get the chance to buy this rare gem, do it. Very hard ... Read More:
