I bought this video because i am a big fan of joanne woodward and like others have difficulty finding dvd's of her films. Anyway this film did not disapoint she and brian denehy turn in wonderful performances as the two middle-aged american strangers on a trip to the uk. This is a gentle story about two people getting to know one another faults and all and falling in love along the way, a very good film a recommend it.

VHS : Moll Flanders (2pc) (Mobile Masterpiece Theatre)
I will admit, I saw this movie before I read the book. But what a good movie it was! It's not so much a movie as it is a miniseries as it took a while to watch, but it is worth it, since miniseries are often able to put in more of the book than a movie whose time must be restricted.

The acting, props, costumes, and background were all solid, and I have no complaint. It was especially fun to see Moll stare right into the camera. For me, that added some spice and fun to watch, especially ... Read More:

VHS : Goodnight Mister Tom
This is a 'nice' movie, with a typically strong performance from John Thaw. However, if you have read the novel, you may find this small screen adaptation disappointing. To compact this touching story into 90 minutes the director has sacrificed any real character development, and in doing so has lost most of the emotional impact created in the novel. Still, it's okay for a rainy afternoon.

I had seen this on Masterpiece Theatre in the past and wanted it for my own collection. It's a spell-binding story and well executed.

*WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW*

"The Eligible Bachelor" (1993) is Granada Television's adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 1892 Sherlock Holmes short story, "The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor." Normally, Granada's productions would noted upon by the viewer as being the most faithful interpretations of their source material in existence. However, in this case (as well as with "The Master Blackmailer" and "The Last Vampyre", all three films produced around the same time), producer ... Read More:

VHS : Edward the King (6pc)
This was truly a superb series that gave a good look at the life and times of Edward VII of England. The King who waited a lifetime to sit on the throne, and while he didn't get to rule for very long, became known as Edward "The Peacemaker", for his gift of diplomacy around the world.

The series is well written, enlightening and entertaining as well. From Edward's birth, while his mother Queen Victoria ruled England, his education, his family, his Randy ways(he was quite the playboy, even after ... Read More:

"There's just a few rules that you have to remember: 1. You're the dominant species. You must never, ever treat them as equals. 2. Don't ever let anything escalate. Always forgive them, whatever they do. 3. Don't get involved in their squabbles. They sort them out. And 4. Erm, some turds in the hall. Can you clear them up?"

Whenever anyone comes up with that kind of list in a movie you can start ticking off the order in which they'll be forgotten and place your bets on who dies first, and Richard ... Read More:

VHS : Strong Poison (Dorothy L. Sayers Mysteries)
"Peter, people have been wrongly condemned before!" -- Harriet

"Only because I wasn't there!" -- Lord Peter Wimsey

As elegant as smoke rings drifting from white-tipped filtered Chesterfields and old Rolls Royce limousines is this BBC adaptation of Strong Poison, featuring Dorothy L. Sayers' popular mystery creation, Lord Peter Wimsey. A certain romantic charm and occasional droll British humor make for a fine mystery. This particular mystery begins the story arc of sleuth Wimsey's romance ... Read More:
