| I bought this video because i am a big fan of joanne woodward and like others have difficulty finding dvd's of her films. Anyway this film did not disapoint she and brian denehy turn in wonderful performances as the two middle-aged american strangers on a trip to the uk. This is a gentle story about two people getting to know one another faults and all and falling in love along the way, a very good film a recommend it. |

| I will admit, I saw this movie before I read the book. But what a good movie it was! It's not so much a movie as it is a miniseries as it took a while to watch, but it is worth it, since miniseries are often able to put in more of the book than a movie whose time must be restricted.

| This is a 'nice' movie, with a typically strong performance from John Thaw. However, if you have read the novel, you may find this small screen adaptation disappointing. To compact this touching story into 90 minutes the director has sacrificed any real character development, and in doing so has lost most of the emotional impact created in the novel. Still, it's okay for a rainy afternoon. |
