| This is a great movie, even though it's a bit slow and corny in parts. Anthony Perkins plays the son of Burl Ives, a man who's worked two wives into the grave and stolen the farm from one of them. Perkins has two half brothers he sends packing off to California in search of gold (this was set in 1840 when Perkins' character was a small boy, the 1850s or after when they're grown). | I was very happy to receive my VHS movie of Montgomery Clift. It was in excellent condition, sealed as promised, and so far has worked perfectly on my VCR. It took a few weeks to arrive, but it was reasonably priced, so it was worth waiting for. Thank you! |

| Script is tight, handling is correct and the story taut.
Who would have known that a B&W movie would be so good. There are no extravaganza stuff, no HUGE entourage for a president, etc. Human emotions, and stuff. And the ending is natural. Not some crappy heroic stuff where Bruce Willis saves the world. |

| I've probably seen 95% of the Sci-Fi movies ever made. Saw this one when I was 10 yrs old (1962). The ONLY movie ever to give me nightmares! Why? I have no idea,something just clicked. |

| I can see that the typical reviewer isn't impressed with the film... That's a pity. I suspect most of the reviewers are not British, and thus aren't "getting" the gist of the humour in the film.
Let me say first of all that OF COURSE this film is not high art. It's comedy - and very British at that. Sometimes it's plain silly, but very FUNNY plain silly. I found the film amusing.
