I have been a fan of Mr. William Shirer for many years and have read about his correspondence during the Nazi regime in Germany. This video compliments highly his views and the condition of the people very well during those years. Being a newspaperman he is critical and imaginative comparing Germany before and after the Nazi's.

VHS : Sammy & Rosie Get Laid
One of my top five (four? three? two?) films of all time. Cinematically lush and evocative.... Provocative, sensual and painting characters with a richness that allows the viewer to connect and empathize (quite a trick with character ranging from man-hating lesbian to old world old man autocrat). Watch it.

Introduction: `Photographing Fairies' is an obscure British film from '98 that to my knowledge was never released to American theaters. It was available in limited quantities on VHS but has yet to appear on a REGION 1 DVD.

This probably shouldn't be too surprising when you look at the subject matter of the film. Unlike the Emerald Isles who have an ancient and ongoing oral and written tradition concerning the "wee folk", American audiences are vastly untutored in the topic of the intangible realm ... Read More:

I found that lucy Irving wrote a comment on the movie. Go to: Amazon UK. Castaway, VHS (not DVD) and see what she has to say about the movie. It will answer some questions. I will add additional comments, after I read Gerald Kingsland's book, "the Islander" (very hard to find in the USA) You can (and should) buy Lucy Irving's book, "Castaway". It's available on Amazon, for
ten cents, on up. Certainly the price is right.

VHS : Rhodes: Life & Legend of Cecil Rhodes
I got this video out of interest in Martin Shaw's work, the actor who plays Cecil Rhodes in this video.

The story is told as a series of extended flash-backs into Cecil Rhodes life starting with his arrival into Africa to work in the Kimberly diamond mines. For some inexplicable reason, the script uses a very painful plot vehicle for these flashbacks, namely a Russian princess who was apparently out to get Rhodes in later life for some unexplained reason. This character is painful to watch. Thankfully, she doesn't ... Read More:

Good news, since it is a BBC Mobile Masterpiece Theatre production, I found it at my local library and it is also available at a website called the public video store. I encourage you to seek it out as the plot contains real character arcs and it has an excellent cast. Pre-Bond (and ever-so attractive) Daniel Craig is just excellent as Sergeant McLoughlin, a somewhat alcoholic policeman whose wife has recently left him. The sergeant develops a rather pervy attraction for one of the three (possibly lesbian) women on whose property the ... Read More:

In and of itself, this movie is a decent straight-forward action flick. The character development is fairly shallow and the plot lacks any real depth; but it's watchable if you just want a quick little story that doesn't require thinking. However, I bought this because of the comparisons the other reviewers made to Leon; don't believe their hype!

The fight scenes in this movie are unrealistic and generally one-sided, it's one of those movies where good defeats the bad and makes it look easy you can watch with the kids. There's a scene in a motel ... Read More:
