| I first saw this serial back in the 1990's when it was broadcast on the AMC cable network. As a fan of the 1950's George Reeves TV show, which was not known for being high tech or big budget, I figured the 2 versions would be similar. Well, even though this serial was filmed in 1948, only 3 years before the George Reeves series began, it might as well have been 25 years difference. | I have always been a huge fan of Gunsmoke the series. When this movie came out I was a little skeptical at first about buying it since most movies that are based on a TV show that was as successful and legendary as Gunsmoke aren't usually all that great, but being the Gunsmoke fan that I am, I purchased it anyway. I'm glad I did. This is a great movie. James Arness, Amanda Blake, Buck Taylor and Steve Forrest all played thier former charactors extremely well. This movie made me feel like I was watching ... | Johnny Mack Brown plays an unusually dapper fur trapper hired to investigate a series of attacks preventing wagon trains from reaching the Oregon territories. He joins up with the most beleaguered wagon train in history, which spends several sequential episodes trying to get out of the same dusty town.
