VHS : Photographing Fairies
Introduction: `Photographing Fairies' is an obscure British film from '98 that to my knowledge was never released to American theaters. It was available in limited quantities on VHS but has yet to appear on a REGION 1 DVD.

This probably shouldn't be too surprising when you look at the subject matter of the film. Unlike the Emerald Isles who have an ancient and ongoing oral and written tradition concerning the "wee folk", American audiences are vastly untutored in the topic of the intangible ... Read More:

VHS : Full Monty
This movie had me laughing from beginning to end. Although the subject of unemployment is no laughing matter, these gentlemen have a plan. And what a plan it is! It really becomes a comedy as we watch the clumsy attempts to dance and strip. The characters' backgrounds, truth stretching, and awkwardness is also charming as well as funny to watch. I have to admit to watching it twice because of the British accents and expressions. The best part is watching the reactions of the guys, and then the ladies. It's a romp ... Read More:

VHS : Pandaemonium
As an historical document, 'Pandaemonium' is risible, on a par with Ken Russell's 'Lizstomania'. As a movie, it is absolutely splendid. It's clever (and wonderfully silly), it looks gorgeous, the performances are fine - especially Linus Roache as Coleridge. You have to think of Russell's outré composer biopics to get the measure of this movie (and of course his Byron-Shelley extravaganza 'Gothic') - along with screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce's recent adaptation of 'Tristram Shandy'.

It starts with an absurd parody of award ... Read More:

VHS : Velvet Goldmine
I was surprised because I don't usually like these types of flashy films but I enjoyed Velvet Goldmine. It's an intense yet relaxing film that you can watch without having to actually think. It's hard to explain but this film actually takes you in so far that you'll question if your sober or high. The set is amazing, the custumes are shocking, the actors are dazzling and the stage performances are wonderful. VG does have some problems though. The plot is loose and there are some slow parts put in for filler. This is not a film for everyone ... Read More:
