VHS : Footloose
After hearing that "Footloose" was being remade (just in time for its 25th anniversary; god I feel old) with Zac Effron of "High School Musical" fame in the lead role made famous by Kevin Bacon, I couldn't resist revisiting a movie that was a huge a part of my own high school years. No doubt about it, "Footloose" is a film that screams EIGHTIES, defining its era in the same way that "Saturday Night Fever" defined the disco days of the Seventies (and perhaps the way that the HSM films will be seen to ... VHS : Edward Scissorhands
I saw this wonderful movie in 1990 when it first came out. I was already a Tim Burton fan of sorts, but this made me a Burton fanatic. I saw it first with my wife, and I remember thinking at the very beginning, when Danny Elfman's haunting, beautiful score was only a few notes old, that I was going to love this film. And I did. It just hit me right in the heart, in the most vulnerable, deepest part of my soul. I know that sounds pretentious, but it's the best I can do with my limited writing ability. ... Read More:

VHS : Parenthood
This has always been a favorite movie of mine, though I can't point to a particular reason why. It's a star-studded "sleeper" film, a quiet film, filled with hilarious comedy and family dysfunction. Frank Buckman (the fantastic Jason Robards) and Marilyn Buckman (Eileen Ryan, mother to Sean and Chris Penn) are the patriarch and matriarch of the Buckman clan. They have four adult children; Gil Buckman (Steve Martin), Helen Buckman-Lampkin (amazing Diane Wiest), Susan Buckman-Huffner (Harley Jane Kozak) and ... Read More:

VHS : The 10th Kingdom
I'd read the book The 10th Kingdom a long time ago and just loved it. It was a great fantasy book -- one that I'd recommend for anyone into this type of genre.

I bought this DVD set about a week ago, thinking it too would become a favorite of mine (based on all the good reviews here on Amazon as well as a stellar review from a friend of mine). I have to say, though, that I was supremely disappointed by the quality of this film! Most of the acting was embarrassingly bad and the script wasn't that good, ... Read More:

VHS : I Am Sam
I've never seen this movie before, but my mum was practically giving it away (she's running out of space) so I grabbed it, and just happened to be in the mood for it. Instead of letting it sit and gather dust until I happen to be in the mood for it. Like most of my "to watch" pile is.

I Am Sam is one of those gems of movies that just has to be seen. From the sweetness of Sam, to the sarcasticness of Michelle Pfeiffer, to Dakota Fanning's debut film role. Each character has a role to fill, and the film could ... Read More:

VHS : Practical Magic (W/Documentary)
For those girls/women out there who like a good love story with all the toppings (sorrow, happiness, suspense, family bonding and of course magical romance), this movie is for you! Great acting, well scripted lines and wonderful story that keeps you wanting more. The soundtrack is super too (I own it as well as the movie). The movie is quite magical, one that you can watch with your family over and over again...
