VHS : Love Letter (1998)
Growing up with Somewhere in Time (Collector's Edition), I was intrigued by Hallmark Hall of Fame's Love Letter, based on a haunting 1959 short story by Jack Finney. Scott Corrigan is a Civil War buff who designs Civil War simulation games (check out the 1998 computer graphics!). One day as he and his fiancee Debra are shopping for a vintage wedding gown, he discovers an antique desk and it's love at first sight, even though he can't really afford it. Scott's also a restorer in his spare time, so ... Read More:

Ahhh, I too remember watching this on late night HBO along with H.O.T.S., Revenge of the Nerds, and a few others that we all thought were cool, risque teen 80's flicks back in the day. I would love to own this on DVD!! Brings back memories of late summer nights and middle school sleepovers.

Having studied the abduction phenomenon in some depth, and being acquainted with all the published work of Budd Hopkins, John Mack and David Jacobs over 20 years with thousands of abductees, I had low expectations of a dramatized movie doing justice to this enormous and detailed subject.

But wow, what a surprise. The movie really is good. It could be watched by a viewer very familiar with the subject, or one to whom the subject matter might be new and unknown, and both would find it absorbing ... Read More:

The movie [was weak], but Dennis Hooper's performance is just plain awesome. The only reason I liked to watch the film... :-). No but seriously, vintage Hooper at his best in the film is only reason to buy it, I couldn't stop laughing at some of the scene Hopper did....

The plot, was interesting and a good idea. The details of the characters were a bit too sterotyped and over the top to equal the plot. Some of the behaviors of the characters were so overblown as to be unbelivable. Too bad. If the writters had spent a couple more weeks on the script this could have been a four star movie. As for the acting, Olivier Gruner and his female co-lead were actually quite good, considering their parts. My biggest complaint with the film is that it was shot in half light and shadows ... I saw this back when it first came out and recently bought it after finding out it was on dvd. It has that typical 80's vibe to it, but it is a good movie. James Remar is actually a good guy in this one! Check it out.

While Randy Travis' small acting parts in the movie leave something to be desired, The overall movie is great!! This is a great western for all of us who have always wanted to get back at the people who make our lives tougher! The guy who plays "Saw" is in this movie and does a great job with his part as the bad guy's "right hand" man. All the actors are great but you have to give all the credit to the great and powerful Bruce Durn! He plays a great bad guy! I love this movie and would recommend it to everyone!!Chris
