| This movie is an evergreen that everyone would love to have in their video library. It's the last of Henry Fonda's films; and coupled with his daughter and with Katherine Hepburn, this film displays the richness of a good story portrayed by excellent actors! | This is a good movie! When I saw the couple held hostage by the convicts I had the urge to change into a superheroine. Even Kim Possible can put those guys in handcuffs,and take them to jail.Rufus can,bite their nose,so can Ron,Kim's too much of a lady. |

| Stirling Silliphant wrote the script for this movie, being the primary writer for the "Route 66" TV series in the 60's it has a very similar feeling to one of those shows. All of the drama, the monologues, the glitz and glamour (when appropriate)is there. The movie even opens with Sidney Potier driving by the Space Needle, how cool and kitch is that? An excellent film that needs to come out on DVD very soon - as does the Route 66 TV series!

| I showed this movie to my 4th graders after reading the book to them. They were a little disappointed with the movie. It left out some crucial scenes that lead the reader/watcher to make a connection to Billy and so the movie is not as meaningful as the book. There were lots of tears in the book, not so many during the movie. My students were also disappointed in the lack of details of some of the biggest scenes in the book, the boy dying with the ax, the hunting competion, the death scene.
