| I've been filling out my collection of Paul Newman films since his passing - and THE VERDICT is one of his best films. A classic script by David Mamet, splendid direction by Sidney Lumet and one of Paul's best performances. The extras in this package are a great bonus. And it's a kick to see a young Bruce Willis sitting in the gallery in the courtroom scenes. | This and "Manhattan" are Woody's two great masterpieces, I think. It's quirky, but it hasn't dated at all because it's classic. You won't laugh a lot, but you may smirk, or smile. I hadn't seen this since it came out years ago. It was a great re-visit. Typical Woody jazz soundtrack lends atmosphere. |

| When I first saw this film years ago, it seemed to me to have a cheap and easy ending, and I thought the whole thing was designed more to titillate than aim for something deeper. Now I've watched it a few times over, and I think it is trying for something. Love elevates the animal into humanity. An old story, but it is hard to argue with this version. | If you haven't seen the original version you will enjoy this one. The original one has better atmosphere but this one is not to be ignored. It has a good pace and keeps the viewer interested. |
