| I would recommend this film for classic film fans only--and even then, I was disappointed.
The film opens in an amazing scene: the beautiful, yet tormented looking, Virginia seems to awaken from some sleep or haze on a park bench. She hears a voice. She is not quite sure where she is, or what she is doing...The mystery of it all draws you into this truly amazing story. We learn where Virginia is, but not why she is there just yet. | This is a favorite from my childhood. I saw it in the theatre when it was first released, and I owned the album and the (widescreen) laser disc.
I was so disappointed to see that this was a full frame transfer, and a lousy one at that! One of the biggest thrills of this movie was its wide open vistas of the Mississippi River and the wonderful cinematography. This DVD release from MGM/UA is grainy, dark and at times fuzzy. Introduced me to Richard Jordan, an actor whose work always grabbed me by the throat, who could go toe to toe with any actor of his day (if he had been able to finish playing Dr. Kohl in The Fugitive, what a confrontation that would have been at the end!) and who died far, far too soon. | This is excatly what I remember watching growing up. Once a year in the mid-60's Cinderella would come on, and I couldn't wait for it. I still remembered all the songs. It's a musical being a Rodgers & Hammerstein's. Not something that today's children are use to. I really enjoyed it. |

| when people write a bad review about an item, in this case a DVD, that they never should have purchased if they didn't like musicals, or bought it, watched it, and came back here to give it a bad review because they enjoyed a different version of the film that included actors they enjoyed more. I've never seen the Philadelphia Story, although I would like to do so one day. If I enjoy TPS more than "High Society," that doesn't automatically make HS worthless.
