what can i say that hasn't been said about this classic. it's a great family movie. great way the family comes together to defend itself. great way the boys are entrusted to go out and work for themselves to find a solution. lots of fun and excitement. is a little violent/graphic for a family movie, but no surprises over anything else.

VHS : The Detective (aka "Father Brown")
"What are you really after, your cross or my soul?" asks the international art thief, Flambeau, of Father Brown.
"Both, of course," Father Brown replies.
"Well, come and find us," Flambeau says. "I'll make you a bargain. Whatever you can find you shall have."
"I accept your bargain," Father Brown says, and we're off into a gentle, amusing and thoughtful movie which stars Alec Guinness as Father Brown and Peter Finch as Flambeau.

Father Brown is a parish priest in an English ... Read More:

directed by: Peter Ustinov
September 01, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Lady L
LADY L is a film about an octogenarian aristocrat (Sophia Loren) who reminisces about her steamy life as lover of an anarchist (Paul Newman) and wife of the sophisticated David Niven. The film has a lot of great scenery and a thoroughly competent cast but not much of a story.

Loren's husband Carlo Ponti is the producer. Peter Ustibov is the director and screenwriter. The film is based on a novel by Romain Gary. The supporting cast includes Cecil Parker, Claude Dauphin, Philippe Noiret and Michel Piccoli.

Very few films achieve perfection but this one comes close to it. Alec Guiness as the leader of a band of dysfunctional robbers, is wonderful. I won't try to summarize the movie, that's been done enough already...but...Guiness rents a flat from a very nice, little old lady and tells her that he and his musician friends will be practicing a lot. In fact they are planning their grand heist.

The little old lady, who is ever so helpful, is constantly butting in to the increasing unhappiness of the gang. ... Read More:

5.Court Jester (Clam) starring: Danny Kaye, Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone, Angela Lansbury, Cecil Parker
directed by: Melvin Frank, Norman Panama
February 24, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Court Jester (Clam)
The Court Jester is a true classic that will keep you entranced the whole time. Danny Kaye is a top-flight actor and singer. It is sort of a take on Robin Hood , the evil king on the throne and a band of fearless outlaws in the forest loyal to the real king. Except Danny is not the fearless leader but the nurse to the orphaned crown prince, and his only duties are to hold the child and show people the mark on his (the baby's) butt. Sound nasty? it's not.

6.Caesar & Cleopatra starring: Claude Rains, Vivien Leigh, Stewart Granger, Flora Robson, Francis L. Sullivan
directed by: Gabriel Pascal
July 05, 2000
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Caesar & Cleopatra
The film is okay, being Vivien Leigh is in it, not much else to say about it. I liked it fine.

The sound quality of my VHS copy is fine (and believe me, I'm hard to please in that area). Yes, this movie belongs on DVD in Dolby 5.1.

The story is so good, you'll swear it is fiction. But it isn't. A country girl from the Australian outback who becomes a world-famous opera singer? Come on! But it's all true.

The first half of the movie is her struggle and rise. From sneaking off the ranch to an audition (of which her father vehemently disapproves) to her scholarship to study singing in Paris ... Read More:

VHS : The Citadel
Inspired in the unforgettable Ibsen `s work : "An enemy of the people" , a rural medic, despite all the hostilities from his colleagues and the miners attended by him, he will rather be in the town instead of to accept a promissory social position.

The egregious presence of King Vidor behind the camera constituted a true mark seal. And if you additionally consider the presence of this prominent actor and the solidity of a script, how can you loose with this movie?

One of the best films of the Thirties.
