VHS : The Flight of Dragons
This movie, The Last Unicorn and the Phantom Tollbooth were my favorite movies as a child. Only one is out on DVD. Unfortunately it's not this one. I know the company is making a killing on the last unicorn. This one would very easily match it. If the DVD gods are reading this please, please, please put it out on DVD! I promise to buy at least 3 copies.

VHS : Surviving Picasso
I have looked for this movie for years to come on DVD...but alas it hasn't happened yet. This movie, which is based on a book, truly shows what it was like to have to live (or 'survive' as you will) with someone who is egocentric and artistic. I don't understand why people wanted this movie to explain Picasso as a person...the title tell you its about someone who SURVIVED Picasso. This man didn't want to be understood. He didn't care about that so appreciate this movie for what it is, a great example ... Read More:

VHS : Macbeth / McKellen, Dench, Royal Shakespeare Company
I realize any Shakespeare aficionado needs no subtitles, as he/she knows it all by heart. I for one get tired of reading my book to go along with the character's dialogue, but I suppose i too shall one day soon find myself mouthing the Bard's immortal words without thinking.
The acting is GREAT.

Belatedly, I planned to write a review of EOD. However, I find that the rest of you got here first, and have written well-deserved high praise!

I first saw EOD here in the US on a syndicated basis. They chopped it up into two parts, and cut a lot of little "unnecessary" bits (like Craven looking out a second storey window and seeing McCroon stepping out of the trees with a shotgun). The sound quality was fair to poor, also.

We eventually got hold of the 2-cassette VHS copy, and caught all the things we ... Read More:

VHS : Pork Chop Hill
"Pork Chop Hill" is set late in the Korean War as the negotiations drone at the "Peace Talks". An infantry company is given the mission to recapture a "strategically meaningless" hill. It's not meaningless if the Army sends you there! PCH is based on a book by BG S.L.A. Marshall, a prominent military historian. Right from the outset, there is a brooding, moody element to the film, especially early on. The b&w photography is just right. Gregory Peck is front as center as company commander, aided by a strong supporting cast, many of whom later became prominent ... Read More:

As someone who grew up in Kenya in the 50s and 60s, I can attest to the fact that this film captures the feel and the spirit of colonial Kenya better than any other film ever made. The characterizations are excellent, and the story is both entirely believable and captures the nature of colonialism without being judgemental. The little boy in the lead role does an excellent job - you can fully empathize with him - and the late Bob Peck is, as ever, superb in the role of the local head of the police. More explanation was needed of the attitude of his wife, it was difficult ... Read More:

There's a great scene in this movie that occurs approximately an hour and nineteen minutes into its runtime. Cranky character actor Clu Gulagher and a few obnoxious teenagers are trapped in his medical supply warehouse by brain-hungry zombies, and the only phone available is located in the warehouse's basement, the door of which is locked and guarded by a particularly ravenous zombie. After retrieving a baseball bat, old Clu instructs one of the kids to open the door and the others to stand back. The door swings open to admit a repulsive, shambling undead horror, its flesh ...
