| This movie came and went during its run in theaters due to its nature. But I feel that it was an honest attempt to tell the story of the most controversial party in America: the Black Panthers.

| I originally purchased this for a friend who is also a teacher, however after seeing it, I decided I wanted one for my classroom as well! It is a great mix of animation and actual footage. My friend teaches in the primary grades and we both felt additional instruction and explanation might be necessary for that audience. I teach upper elementary and the DVD will support a basal reader selection quite nicely and without additional instruction. Highly recommend. |

| The Jacksons: An American Dream along with The Five Heartbeats and The Tempations is one of my favorite male R&B group musical movies. The casting was excllent but the film does have some flaws.The film could have went into more detail about the fellas and it would have been great to hear Find Me A Girl,Daddy's Home and Rock With You. |

| I could easily have given this movie five stars on the acting alone. But I had to take out one star for a few inaccuracies in the movie plus the movie left out certain elements in his life that I felt were important(like his speech to the Africans in Africa that the blacks in America had the same struggle that they had) but dont mistake my tone because I still recommend it flaws and all.

| Neither fans nor detractors seem to have a clue what this movie is about. The best window on the theme is Tierney's statement. Everyone does deals, gives and takes favors. That's not a lamentable fact of urban life. It's the reality for social creatures. That's enobling and tragic, and all of Sayles characters are in it. All except the autistic guy, who can only parrot another's cry for help. A brilliant explication of a fundamental truth of human existence. |

| After selection, the movie was mailed to me in exactly the time frame adverstised. Knowing it was previously viewed I was pleasantly surprised to find the DVD in perfect order and played beautiful. I recently saw Tina live in Houston. I wanted to see the movie again as it is a powerful tribute of where she was, how she got started, and how she was started again. I loved the heartfelt pain and triumped with her as she returned solo and became one of the greatest women of all time. |

| This is a beautifully filmed, splendidly acted, and intelligently written film, well worth watching. At the same time, the movie is overly long and the script contains more than a bit of soap opera. Most objectionable, to this viewer, was the low level of moral sensitivity exhibited by Sayles. There seems to be nothing higher in life than sex, even when it's with someone else's husband. Christianity is sneered at in the script, and there is blasphemy along with the much-used "f" word.
