VHS : Moll Flanders (2pc) (Mobile Masterpiece Theatre)
I will admit, I saw this movie before I read the book. But what a good movie it was! It's not so much a movie as it is a miniseries as it took a while to watch, but it is worth it, since miniseries are often able to put in more of the book than a movie whose time must be restricted.

The acting, props, costumes, and background were all solid, and I have no complaint. It was especially fun to see Moll stare right into the camera. For me, that added some spice and fun to watch, especially ... Read More:

VHS : Warrior Queen
Alex Kingston is indeed excellent in this role. A made-for TV production lacks money for a more experienced cast and elaborate sets, but that being said, they do succeed in painting a portrait of this brave warrior, and take the veiwer into the Romano-Celtic world of the early Dark Ages.

I am a little perturbed by the quibbling over language. We shouldn't be concerned about the script containing modern expressions. . . to be so is to hold the script to artificial and inaccurate standards. ... Read More:

VHS : Curse of Frankenstein
Although "Curse Of Frankenstein" was technically not the first of Hammer's horror movies ("The Mystery Of The Marie Celeste", from 1935 {and starring Bela Lugosi}, gets that honor) it was their first in a couple decades and it was the one that really launched Hammer Horror as a force. It came out in 1957, at the beginning of a great burgeoning of horror, and it set the tone for a lot of Hammer's movies that would come and make the studio the UK's most signifigant horror player for years. So it has great ... Read More:

VHS : Carrington
If you've ever been in love with someone, who, for whatever reason can't absolutely return your feelings, you will sympathize with Emma Thompson as Carrington. Both delicately and passionately told, the love between Dora and Lytton Strachey is told in sections, titled with the names of other lovers and the houses they all live in. Although the subject matter includes pre-and extra-marital affairs as well as early twentieth-century British homosexuality (much different than American), this film has a sweet innocence ... I just seen the movie in Max Prime, and I sure can relate to the reviewers who said that the choise of actor and weakness in the plot make this unbelievable- but lets focus on substance! neo-nazis have taken over, be it white supremacist in the US (from KK to who knows what), actual neo-puristanist at the white house or the fact that Germany is reacting to its loss at II WW.. to make matter worst, we have the perfect excuse of the terrorist act of 09/11 enforced by a patriot Act that places all powers to judicial prosecutors ... VHS : Essex Boys
If you like your films with grit and non-sentimentality, then this film is for you.

The ensemble cast is as good as any group Scorcese or Tarantino have put together. Only, these actors are from the mean streets of Essex, England.

The highly underrated (by American audiences) Sean Bean (Boromir, Agent 006 and countless other memorable film characters) brings a realism to his psychotic character worthy of DeNiro and Pesci. (As an aside, Bean also starred alongside DeNiro in an international thriller, Ronin, ... Read More:
