It rained part of the way down and most of the way back to South Carolina and we didn't get a single drop of water inside the bag. The bag is HEAVY vinyl and has a velcro lip that folds down to completely cover the zipper; no water leaking in here. I would definetly recommend you do a dry run before your trip to get the staps adjusted properly. We tried to attach it in a dark garage at 5am and did not have the best results. The only issue is that the buckles were too large to fit under the rack on top of the van. We had to take the buckles off and feed through the strap then put the buckle back on.
